5/ The president was convinced by experts in his administration that bollard fencing was much smarter than a concrete wall. So he went with that.
But that's why we have a fence with a plaque on it calling the fence a "wall." Which is on its face kind of strange.

4/ ...and a running joke among border agents, a source tells me, is that the plaque will serve as a decent foothold for migrants looking to hop the fence.
Then there's this: the fencing is not an immense concrete wall as once promised....

3/ ...and with the design that the President approved. CBP officials give Trump credit for making the funding a priority to the degree previous presidents did not.
That said, it's not being paid for by Mexico,..

2/ Yes, this replacement fence was planned by the US gov dating back to 2009. All of these barriers have been planned in some way. shape or form for at least a decade. But Trump is the one who pushed for funding and made it a priority, thus the funding was allocated in 2017...

There's a real divide among government officials about whether the border fence the president is visiting today is what it says on the plaque bolted to it: the "first section of President Trump's border wall."
Here's what I've learned. 1/

(51,608 posts)became the fake prez and was paranoid. I brought my passport and wallet passport just in case. I love Tecate since there are no lines, no one speaks English and it is sincere, small town Mexico (the opposite of Tijuana). It was even EASIER to come back into the US. They didn't ask to look in my bag, check my left overs and at the border checkpoint 25 miles inland we weren't even pulled over (that has never happened in the 15+ times I have made the trip). There weren't any immigrants lined up either. It was quiet, safe, speedy and normal. If anyone wants to know how dangerous the border crossing is, come to Tecate.
***I had to look for the "new" fence/wall. There wasn't anything but shiny, new wire on top of the existing fence. Was this worth shutting the country down and losing billions $$$ ?

(3,335 posts)So he had nothing to do with the entire project except putting up a plaque.
It wouldn't surprise me if his cost incurred for flights and travel has exceeded the total travel costs of the last 5 presidents combined. He doesn't want to do any real work related to his office; he just wants to spend time grandstanding and being recorded while lying to the public who he thinks is as stupid as he is.

Something doesn't make sense here.
