(13,390 posts)for the benefit of the doubt he got when his allies placed his behavior on a continuum which they minimized based on legitimacy of the women's ccomplaints. And even more for the response of empathy from people who looked past the women to minimize his behavior as locker room talk. The kind that is so common among men that they feared their own lives could be ruined if their ordinary and innocent histories were revealed.
The claimed victimization of and perceived threat to social dominance is not limited by partisanship because the challenge to the long standing power structure inspires fear of a loss of superiority of members of the top tier no matter their philosophy. It's an endless struggle in a social hierarchy. When an oppressed group is recognized as relevant the oppressive element fears loss. A local anti-war, progressive on most counts group has difficulty with getting support from women because it is run by a unashamed misogynistic guy and his MRA son.

The man that rescued me from him, hugged me and sighed a sigh of relief in my hair (at 17). there is a difference between gross and compassion. Maybe people should learn the difference. Just sayin'!
