on Trump.
This includes a hard drive with 14 million files, he said.
Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis said the information "has significant value to the various congressional oversight and investigation committees" investigating President Donald Trump.
Cohen's legal team is hoping the new information will allow Cohen to delay his three-year prison sentence for lying to Congress and campaign-finance violations.
In new documents submitted to lawmakers Thursday, Cohen said Trump instructed him to lie about a Trump Tower project in Moscow.

(52,252 posts)i understand that, particularly when dealing with criminal organizations, the smaller fish provide assistance in exchange for lighter sentences all the time.
but i thought that mostly had to do with testimony, intel, or perhaps particularly time sensitive stuff.
if it's just "hey, i've got physical evidence of felonies here", isn't that just withholding material information in a criminal case, and can't they just get a search warrant for it or otherwise demand that he produce it? and in fact, couldn't they charge him with obstruction if he fails to produce it?
if he does cooperate, sure, he can *ask* for a reduction in sentence based on his further cooperation, but i'm not clear how he can *negotiate* for that ahead of producing it.

It starts in the House, but the Senate has to ratify. Mme Speaker is a genius at walking and chewing gum at the same time as she is juggling priorities. Part of her genius is her ability to count votes on both sides. The Senate under GOP rule (Mitch McConnel and Lindsay Graham) is not going to ratify impeachment as long as they feel the net gain of having Trump in office is still there.
Which is not Nancy Pelosi's fault.

(4,517 posts)That's why I said give us impeachable evidence. Evidence that cannot be spun or hidden, evidence so incontrovertible, that the GOP will be FORCED to impeach or risk jail time themselves.
