Can Congress ask for Tax Returns of all Presidential Candidates be Released ?

can Congress ask the IRS for that ?

of all parties.

how about a law where tax returns for a certain number of years are released if they file to run for president ?

While each state holds its own election, an argument could and no doubt would be made that that would amount to changing the eligibility requirements for the presidency as outlined in the Constitution and that can only be done by constitutional amendment.

Or not. But I can't imagine that such a thing would not be decided, ultimately, by the Supremes.

4. The law that requires the release of tax returns

to the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee is as follows:

Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.

7. The Chair of the House Ways & Means Has the Authority to See Any US Tax Return for Any Reason

The Senate Finance Committee chair also has the same authority. They can see the return for any US citizen or company. All they have to do is ask and the IRS has to comply. It’s the law.
