(1,580 posts)At this point I am trying to clean out the beds. I won't try to plant anything for about two weeks. Lots of bulbs coming up now, flowering. It's 61 degrees today. The wind makes it feel much colder. We have a loooong growing season. Sometimes have to mow the yard into late October. Which kind of sucks.

(146,318 posts)From the Wikipedia article
Elizabeth Holmes was born in Washington, D.C.[9] Her father, Christian Rasmus Holmes IV, was a vice president at Enron, after which he held executive positions in government agencies such as USAID, the EPA, and USTDA.[10][11][12] Her mother, Noel Anne Daoust, worked as a Congressional committee staffer
She did have an important daddy, who worked for a very crooked company.

(146,318 posts)It's a fascinating one, and caught my attention very early in her rise to fame, and long before her plunge back to obscurity.
She charmed her way into getting billions in funding for her Blue Sky company. It's a study in the long con game.
The wikipedia article and its links are a very good start.

(6,930 posts)It IS fascinating. I really cannot get a grip on how she did this. I mean, to me it makes no sense if the tests did not work, right? She seemed to be really good at getting older rich men to invest, sadly.
I have been dealing with a lot of trauma in my life and guess I just somehow missed the story. Trying to catch up on it. Appreciate the advice on links.
MineralMan
(146,318 posts)to charm some people into funding her enterprise. I've seen her speak, and she does have an effective presentation mode.
She's a strange person, though, withal. Still she was young, blonde, and not unattractive, so that may have played a role with some of her funders. I suspect, though, that she had some quality that I don't know about that closed the deal. A penetrating gaze or something. There is no hint of any sexual connection, though, so it has to be a personality trait of some kind.
I'm afraid I was rather taken with her for a short time, in an imaginary sort of way, but I soon saw through her ruse. It's rather a remarkable story, and I will be interested to see if she lands on her feet again.

Her name, brand, and family are all putrid. Good luck becoming the first woman president,* sweetie!
*that was the plan, I believe--she and hubby had the agreement that she got to go first, then him. Of course, now Jr. is making noises like he'd like to throw his hat in the ring--after daddy's second term of course. In addition to being ethically challenged and morally compromised, these people are walking exemplars of Dunning-Krueger.

(10,026 posts)Not even Russia convinced people to vote for Trump's kids and in-laws to be given government policy making jobs. They wanted Trump to save them not his vapid family.
The same type of voters went bat shit crazy when Hillary tried to take an active role in the Clinton WH. She was vilified for sticking her nose in trying to solve healthcare. No one voted for her to make major policy decisions, they screamed...and actually they kind of had a point.
Ivanka and Jared have no business taking active roles in the US government. I understand Trump is possibly feeble minded and needs his daughter near him as a trusted family caretaker and confidant, but that should have been kept behind the scenes politically. No one believes she is qualified to do much, and while her husband may have some experience in real estate finance because of family networking, he has absolutely no foreign diplomatic skills. In the past, the US relied on professionals, not unskilled amateurs.
