If/when Trump's criminality is fully exposed, what will happen?
Jail is out of the question. The next time we have a Dem prez with a Republican congress, they'll make up some reason to jail him for life.
So what do we do with Trump?
Suggestions?

(12,344 posts)Jailing an ex-President is for banana republics. Not jailing one encourages corruption. The solution is to prevent someone like Trump from getting elected to begin with, and by extension, heal our political divide so that party is no longer above democratic norms.

The BEST case scenario is Trump being haunted by strong lawsuits for the rest of his life. He is used to this, being a litigious kind of guy, but hopefully they will be fast and furious and non stop. He will win some, but not all.
Many fines, perhaps a sentence or two. I agree, no jail. He will be under a microscope. The price he pays. And since hes no Jimmy Carter, he will not have peace.

(15,541 posts)Dumpie needs to be tied up in court for the rest of his life spending whatever money he's stolen so that he's reduced to ridicule. However, I'd be happier if Kushner was jailed and the sons and especially the Princess get the most of the fallout so that they never again think they'll get elected to higher office. Their father has lived the majority of his life, but those offspring have years to continue their grifting.

(11,570 posts)We have never before had a president even remotely as corrupt as Trump. We are new territory and the way I see it, all bets are off.

(13,390 posts)Serving in the confederate congress was the real thing and indesputable. But there was a lot more than that to deal with after the Civil War. We also have a lot of work ahead of us, and much of it is about USAers daily lives. It's not like Trump has a lot of time ahead of him. I think minimizing the damage his kids can do in the future should be prioritized over a quixotic hope of sending Trump to prison.

(3,268 posts)President or not (and this is debatable), treasonous or not (debatable, but less so) he is a lifelong criminal who deliberately damaged our Republic and either he is jailed or the rule of law becomes a joke. In the last century I have no doubt he would be tried and executed.
