Gingrich Strongly Urges Trump to Not Close U.S.-Mexico Border: Consequences Would be 'Absurd'

Newt Gingrich Strongly Urges Trump to Not Close U.S.-Mexico Border: Consequences Would be ‘Absurd’

by Ken Meyer | Apr 3rd, 2019, 8:02 am

It seems former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is not enthused with President Donald Trump‘s recent promise to close the U.S.-Mexico border.

In an interview on Wednesday with Fox & Friends, Gingrich was asked if he’s behind Trump’s border shutdown threats, even as critics argue that the move would have a major impact on trade and international economics. Gingrich gushed over Trump’s economic policy earlier in the interview, and he warned that following through and shutting down the border would endanger the economic gains the president is riding on.

“I think that the consequences to the economy, to our relationship with Mexico, to millions of families would be absurd. I would strongly urge the president not to try to shut down the border. We have so many people every day who go back and forth. We have so much economic goods on both sides. It would truly be a mess and it would frankly mess up the very economy he is proud of. You would have tremendous side effects from closing the border.”

I knew he couldn't make a comment without saying it.

and it's devastated many farms in Trump country, but most still support him.

Heard a quote from some farmer a few months back: "Sure, it hurts me, but he's such a brilliant businessman that there must be a reason for it" or something like that.

You advised him, you supported him, he gave your current wife an ambassadorship.

Don't act like you weren't one of the ad men marketing a clearly defective product.

BTW, I forget, which wife are you cheating on these days? Your third or fourth?
