America would run out of avocados in three weeks if Trump shuts down Mexico border

Millennials may need a new superfood to top their toast soon.

President Donald Trump’s threats to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border this week would significantly impact produce availability and pricing in the United States, especially avocados.

“You couldn’t pick a worse time of year because Mexico supplies virtually 100 percent of the avocados in the U.S. right now. California is just starting and they have a very small crop, but they’re not relevant right now and won’t be for another month or so,” Mission Produce president and CEO Steve Barnard said to Reuters.

He estimates that the United States would run out of avocados in three weeks if imports from Mexico were halted.

but I’d eat avocados every single day if it wouldn’t put me into bankruptcy. I want a yard with a couple of big-ass avocado trees providing deliciousness non-stop.

AND the Border Patrol didn't even ask me the questions they have been asked whenever I crossed over during the past 20+ years. They did NOT ask to look at my leftovers, did not ask why I was in Mex and further up at a checkpoint they did 't even pull us over and ask for our citizenship which they ALWAYS did. What is up with that? I haven't been down there since the moron took over and brought my passport and my wallet sized one out of paranoia.

a gasoline crisis just before Winnebago season! No avocados??? Oh my...

See - just another example of failure of tRump: he has no ability to see the long-range consequences of his spur-of-the-moment decisions. It's all just what he deems "right" for the moment. Jackass.

Same with his threat to cut aid to the "three Mexican countries". What's that going to solve? It'll just make conditions there all the more unbearable and encourage their citizens to make the long and dangerous trek to the U.S. to escape their misery. It surely won't encourage them to stay in their home countries.

He has yet to learn that his misguided actions have consequences.

Now, me and mine will be fine, what with my BIL growing bushels of the stuff. They also have more than one avocado tree, so we're good for guacamole.

However I can certainly see problems on the horizon for Trumpists, who are apparently too effing dumb to know which state or which country their produce comes from -- or who picks it -- or when.

Trump is trying to destroy the US, not make it great.

I love avocados and Guacamole. I am getting ready to start the Keto diet and a huge staple of that diet will be avocados, olive oil, coconut oil and nuts.

Shutting down the border makes him a huge asshole for a number of reasons, but this is just one of the negative outcomes. Besides, Mexico depends upon us as trading partners as well. They need our money as much as we need their products.
