Would you, in good conscience, release it in its entirety, and face jail time over it?

(146,317 posts)I don't know how many people have had access to it, though. It might be carefully controlled in that regard. If not, then, it's already on several USB thumbdrives, I'm sure. If more than a dozen people have had access to it, one could mail copies of the thumbdrive to major newspapers like WAPO and NYT and the LA times, anonymously on brand new thumbdrives. Just mail them from some other state, with a text file on the thumbdrive identifying the document and enough information that would help verify it's authenticity.
It would probably be possible to retain that anonymity, at least for a while, anyhow. But, you'd stand a chance of facing legal trouble, for sure. But, then, again, you might never do any prison time, in the end, if the contents were mindblowing.

(4,448 posts)Collecting employer info and putting it on thumb drive. Mind you this guy is no slouch and he's testified before Congress about Cyber Security.
Still he didn't know that his former employer would pull the logs from the machine and determined precisely when the information was downloaded and even when the thumb drive was plugged in and removed.
It stated a civil matter since it was information that no one cared about, but he had to write a big check.
I'm not sure that the newspapers mentioned would even run it. If it has classified info, or info embargoed by law they may not touch it.

(25,183 posts)but knowing you'd probably never get a job again. You couldn't be trusted with anything confidential.
And, if you've read the full report, and know that the Barr summary is pretty much accurate for the most part, then you'd be risking everything for zero possible gain. Maybe that's why we've not seen a copy so far.

(25,183 posts)Erin Brockovich knew she had the goods on her company. We don't yet know what is in the Mueller report, and how different the Barr summary is from the gist of that report. Anybody who has this mythical thumb drive can easily compare the two, and if there's nothing to be revealed that would cause a Hollywood movie someday, then it's not worth it.

But the producers of said works would not be facing prison time for releasing them.
