The best thing that could happen with the border issue

The media needs to do its' job and let Americans know what is going on in the countries involved. If we saw a clear picture of why these people are fleeing to safer ground we might have a better understanding of how to respond.
It is true that the media is responsible for the mess we are in. All they do is chase the daily dog whistle.

Don't they have foreign correspondents anymore? Can't they interview these people? There have got to be leaders of these caravans. People don't just start walking aimlessly toward the US/Mexican border unless it's on The Walking Dead. Is someone financing these caravans? Where are the investigative journalists?

Great post!

some of them out of the best intentions: "Why don't they just stay there and fix their problems instead of coming here?"

Whe you and your family are starved and oppressed, staying and fixing the problem is rarely an option.

yesterday. Six, three were now against Trump, 3 still for him. The loudest "for" man was a white man about 50 who got wound up claiming that (approximate language) 'we fought a revolution in our country, why don't those people fight a revolution in theirs to make their situation better?'
There is a certain percentage of American voters who are absolutely and totally impervious to facts or the truth. And this is nowhere more evident than with the newly-minted "immigrant crisis".

Many people talk as if they just turned off the TV one night and decided to go north just to bother us and get free stuff. It's like they have no idea.

I know people who have been loyal Democrats and even more liberal (one teaches Peace Studies) who have been anti-immigration or some with some exceptions (themselves in some cases). Some bought into the rhetoric that misrepresented labor union history and values. And, xenophobia and racism are not exclusive to conservatives. We should not make the mistake of assuming they are and that all will be well with immigration policy if we make political changes. This is one of the things that won't go away with a change in leadership. We need a massive cultural shift.
