Betsy DeVos calls Special Olympics "awesome" after proposed $18 millions in budget cuts.

Appearing before a House subcommittee Tuesday to review the department’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, DeVos said, “We had to make some difficult decisions.”

DeVos’s remarks came in response to questions from Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), who pressed her on the amount of kids the budget cut would impact.

“I don’t know the number of kids,” DeVos said before Pocan answered that 272,000 kids would be impacted.

“I think Special Olympics is an awesome organization, one that is well supported by the philanthropic sector as well,” DeVos said.

The budget proposed by President Trump and supported by DeVos calls for nearly $18 million in cuts to the Special Olympics.

Betsy DeVos, on cutting funding to the Special Olympics:

"We had to make some difficult decisions."

The Special Olympics cost around $18 million, or about the same as five of Trump's golf trips to Mar-a-Lago.

It's not a difficult decision. It's an evil one.

Hope he agonizes over how to fix this

The proposed military budget for 2020 is $750 billion.

That is $2200 per person in the USA.

A 0.0024% cut to the 2020 military budget could fund the special olympics program.

She is infuriating.

Pocan tries to get answers about:

25% of charter schools fail.
cuts to National and Technical Institute for the Blind. also cuts to federal program for printing books for blind students.
cuts to Galludet University (learning, teaching and research for deaf and hard-of-hearing students).
and the Special Olympics.

and yet 15.6% increase in executive salary appropriation...

just watch her answers (and what is up with her smile)
