I finally went to my tax guy to file..My husband died Oct 26th, so I was unsure about filing on my own online,,
We went through all the steps and he said to me.. You do not owe ANYTHING.. Yay!!.. then he said he could print it out for me, but it would cost me $188. or I could just say never mind and that would be it.. That was the good news..
the bad news? apparently, I am too poor to actually OWE taxes
So if I never make any more than we did last year, I'm golden forever..

(54,436 posts)Since the info is already in their computer, all someone has to do is click "print." I don't know how long it takes to click "print," but it sounds like someone is earning slightly over the minimum wage to do it.

He probably just deleted it

(4,533 posts)you Can file a tax return even when you are not required to do so. In that case, I assume, there is a fee for preparing and filing the tax return. Alternatively, I assume, she is not required to prepare and file a tax return at all. In that case there is no charge even though the preparer has spent time determining that no return is required. The tax return of someone not required to file can be complicated.

I had an unusual one this year bu filing, printing and everything cost much less than that.
I am glad you said no. It is hard when you have to do things on your own but will get easier. Trust me.

(1,822 posts)With the increased standard deduction I imagine a lot more people on fixed income will fall into the not required to file. I see that a lot as a preparer for the federal return but rarely state here in Indiana.
