He was secretly recorded and Should be fired by comedy central, for his repugnant comments about Muslims.

(928 posts)If you've never seen any of his stand up, maybe you wouldn't think of him as an asshole.
Granted, he's no Andrew Dice Clay, but he's still an asshole.

(25,586 posts)I couldnt sit through that self-serving hype for very long. The innocent fellow providing the commentary is a far-right activist in Australia who works for a website that idolizes Tommy Robinson so youll forgive me if I hesitate to take him at face value.

(20,631 posts)he would do things like compare Muslims with dingoes. Yemini does seem to possess some rudimentary level of self-awareness, so he didn't take the bait. The idea that this is guy is allied with Jordan Peterson, and links at the end of this video were titled "The Truth about the Christchurch Mosque shooting" and "How Stupid is Antifa" tells me all I need to know about the guy.

(52,399 posts)I do get the vibe that jefferies can be an asshole at times, albeit a left-leaning one.
But Sasha baron cohen and Samantha bee have also done similar things. Call it undercover, or playing a character, but they're deliberately trying to get the interviewee comfortable with saying outlandish/bigoted things. It doesn't mean anything about what the interviewer thinks.

(20,631 posts)definitely occurred to me after I had posted that Sacha Baron Cohen clearly has mastered that technique in his own interview segments.
It's obvious this Yemini guy is looking to take down someone on the left, like an Australian James O'Keefe.

(52,399 posts)I'm just saying that the video from the right-winger who apparently failed to object to what jefferies was saying is not compelling evidence.
Jefferies was basically conducting a sting operation. There's no point in capturing a whole police sting on video and saying, hey, look, the police guy is advertising that he's got drugs and hookers available. Yes, duh, that's the point of the sting. You're supposed to know it's illegal and just say no.
Now, the police guy might well be a crook, but the video of him conducting a sting doesn't prove it at all.
More generally, sometimes it's hard to tell with comedians. They're all about pushing buttons and getting people to laugh, and one of the cheap ways to do that is by making taboo out over-the-top bigoted statements. Daniel tosh does this to the nth degree. I find it hard to believe he can come up with those jokes without actually being a bigot, but he clearly exaggerates those views for comic effect.
Separate question is, even if it's clearly a joke, is the telling of such jokes a problem anyway, which I think it is....

(25,586 posts)Thats what TV hosts do, they try to get people to make better television. This dickwad just wants to project his own racism onto Jefferies.

(10,807 posts)Day in day out, attempting to carve out their own niche, the actors of the far right, make and abandon friends, cheat on and chastise each other, oscillate between righteousness and hypocrisy, have budding romances and disappointments. They are manipulated and they manipulate.

(28,998 posts)nuanced. It is disappointing they edit like that but I get the impression they guy in the interview is still a douchebag and deep down he probably is more like the guy who the edited clip ended up showing. That being said, I won't ever watch these shows the same again if they edit the way it shows.
As far as Jefferies not like Burkas, that isn't uncommon for liberals who see them historically used so men can control women. However, I doubt if Jefferies would want a law that requires Muslim women not to be able to wear them. So this fellow did a bit of creative editing himself.

(9,999 posts)This interview uses the same tactics that TDS and others do to interview people who need very little prodding to bring out their questionable views. And when their views are exposed, they all cry about being a victim.
