Did Putin defeat Isis or did Donald Trump defeat Isis??

I recall a news article from a year ago, or more, that described a meeting between Assad of Syria and Vladimir Putin. Putin's commented about how the Russian troops were able to defeat Isis and the heavy bombings they brought upon the Syrian people and the Isis rebels.

But now, Trump shows a chart where Isis is almost gone? What newspaper did that come from? A Russian source?

Yeah, Isis is disappearing because Russia has bombed them to hell and back...

You seem to think that ISIS was much more territorially limited than it was. Igel Mar 2019 #2

Consider the 2015 map at this site: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-27838034

You'll see that ISIS territory was in Iraq, over near Aleppo, SE of Damascus, in East Syria, and various places in between.

Russia/Syria didn't deal with ISIS in Iraq; that was largely US/Kurd take-over area, with the Iraqi army getting into the mix.

A river in Syria was designated as the informal border between a "Syria/Russia" take-over zone and a Kurdish/American take-over zone to avoid having Russian/Syrian and US/Kurdish forces try to move into the same area and fight each other. The Russians bombed while Syrian troops moved into ISIS areas on their side of the river. The US bombed while Kurdish forces moved into ISIS on their side of the river.

In other words, Putin was right. For that section of ISIS territory. In other words, Trump was right. For another section of ISIS territory.
