MARCH 19, 2019 03:12 PM,

UPDATED 6 HOURS 11 MINUTES AGO

When this homeowner two hours west of Fort Worth started having problems with his cable reception last week, he crawled under his house to see what was going on.

He quickly found a “few” snakes living under his home between Albany and Baird and called Big Country Snake Removal, according to the Buffalo Gap company’s Facebook post.

“Due to the high winds, their tv/cable was acting up, so a gentleman crawled under to see what was going on,” Nathan Hawkins, the company owner posted. ““He saw a ‘few’ snakes and quickly crawled out.”

As the company’s team started looking under the house on March 13, they found more than just a few snakes. ... By the time they were done they had pulled 45 snakes from the house{.}

It is because cable, POTS (plain old telephone service) or electricity are not underground in many older areas. Gas, yes, but that is usually all. The rest come from "drops" from a utility pole.

Many older houses in Texas do not sit on a concrete slab. Rather they sit on concrete blocks, bricks, lumber, jackstands, or some other study material with a dirt flooring underneath. It was too expensive to build with concrete back in the day.

We have lots of clay soils in Texas. That can cause slab shifting, cracks in the slab, and cracks in the house structure. Pier services to stabilize a slab and house are common here.

It's easy to jack up an older house, and transport them to a bigger lot.

All that leads to go under the house, and run cable, or POTS to to where you want to then drill upwards through the flooring.

Over the entrance to the crawl space.

Imagine making a living removing rattlesnakes.

What happens to the snakes?

and my cable lines are run from the pole in my backyard and under the house through my crawlspace and up through the floor in various rooms of the house. Easier to drill through wood than brick and plaster.

attention when in the rough and not step in the brush that started some of the gullies due to rattlesnakes. I grew up around them in Florida, there are procedures to follow when walking through brush. I have seen some really big ones, when I was a boy that we came upon one had a head that must have approached 4 inches in the unthreatened state. Of course, boys being boys, the older boys made it mad, the sound was absolutely deafening, that was one massive rattlesnake.

Clearly they have been eating well. Guy might want to keep a rat removal company on speed dial.

There is not enough money in this world to get me to crawl under there and haul out 45 rattlesnakes. If I were hired, that homeowner would be paying to repair shotgun damage after I finished clearing the snakes.
