Stormy's lawsuit filed: March 6. First search warrant citing campaign finance: April 9.

Thank you, Stormy Daniels and Michael Avenatti.

Interesting observation from @JRiley8832:

Unlike the broader April search warrants, the February ones for the email accounts do not cite probable cause for campaign finance violations.

This could suggest the probe expanded between this window.

1. First FEC and DoJ complaints filed - JANUARY 2018

Stormy Daniels is preparing to sue Avenatti.

https://www.commoncause.org/resource/common-cause-v-trump-cohen-stormy-daniels/#

In January 2018, the Wall Street Journal broke the story that Michael Cohen, who was President Trump’s personal lawyer, top lawyer at the Trump Organization and self-described Trump “fix-it guy” back in 2016, had set up a shell company in Delaware (Essential Consultants LLC) in October 2016 and arranged a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels through that shell company right before the November 2016 presidential election. Ms Daniels had earlier alleged that she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 and in the Fall of 2016 was in talks with one or more national media outlets to go on the record with her story.

On January 22, 2018, Common Cause filed a complaint with the Department of Justice and a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging reason to believe that the payment of $130,000 from Essential Consultants LLC to Ms. Daniels was an unreported and illegal in-kind contribution to the Trump campaign because the payment was for the purpose of influencing the 2016 presidential general election and was made in coordination with the campaign via Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen. At that time, the source of the $130,000 was unknown–and Common Cause named both the Trump Organization and “John Doe” as possible sources.

It’s a shame that Cohen and Avenatti are both holding back the Katie Johnson story.

2. I agree about the importance of the Katie Johnson story.

But I don't know what Stormy would know about that. Cohen probably would, but we don't know what he's sharing with Mueller and what he isn't.

It crossed my mind that there might be a Katie Johnson pay-off hiding in the 17 redacted pages.

4. Obviously the payoff wasn't large enough

Does it strike you as at all unusual that this supposed payoff did not extend to having the promoters of the Katie Johnson story take down their fundraising website?

www.justiceforkatie.com

All that money, and they didn't think of getting the website taken down.

What do you suppose they are collecting the money for?

5. She should pay up what she owes to Avenatti

Often Avenatti said he could not recall when companies or entities he owned were created. He also said other assets were now the property of his soon-to-be ex-wife.

Stolper asked about limited liability companies owned by Avenatti, including one that operated a racing team and another entity, Passport 420, that owned Avenatti’s Honda jet airplane.

The attorney also asked Avenatti if Stormy Daniels ever owed Passport 420 money, which Avenatti said was privileged information though he later added she owed the company for travel expenses.

Asked whether Avenatti’s apparent legal troubles and recent bankruptcy played a role in his client breakup with Daniels, Brewster said, “I’ll simply say this. In addition to reviewing the legal matters that are pending, we would expect a full accounting and disclosure with regard to the representation of Stormy. That’s another issue we’ll deal with. I’m not, at this point in time, able or informed sufficiently to form opinions on that.”

6. No, Avanetti had nothing to do with the Cohen warrant or search

This process started in July of 2017 and Avanentti had no influence on this process

7. We don't know that. The earlier search warrant didn't say anything about campaign finance.

It was one of the warrants in April, after Avenatti filed the lawsuit in March, that first mentioned campaign finance violations as a subject of the search.

That warrant, by the way, came from the SDNY -- not Mueller. And it mentioned as part of its probable cause, "public information." Well, by April, the Stormy lawsuit was public information.

8. Avanetti had nothing to do with SDNY or the FBI raid

It takes months to get a warrant to search a lawyers office in the real world. The filing released yesterday show how much work was done to justify that warrant. Avanetti had nothing to do with this process.

I never took avenatti seriously and I was not the only lawyer who ignored Avanatti.
