GOP official says God chooses to bless raped women with pregnancy

Where do they find these people?

http://www.examiner.com/article/gop-official-says-god-chooses-to-bless-raped-women-with-pregnancy

Sharon Barnes, a high ranking state Republican, came to the defense of her conservative colleague who she believes only "phrased it (his statement) badly."

Barnes was quoted by The New York Times saying, "abortion is never an option." Barnes went on to biblically claim that, "If God has chosen to bless this person [the rape victim] with a life, you don’t kill it."

Barnes did not elaborate on her views for post-pregnancy care, or costs.

particularly since the Biblical punishment for rape was stoning at one point.

Not that long ago, in this country, in many states, the punishment for rape maxed out w/the death penalty.

In any case, the whole situation is patently absurd, rape is a horrific crime perpetrated on both men and women and is a crime that has little to do with the sexual acts involved and everything about power and domination over another. it should never be taken lightly, and most assuredly, if a woman became pregnant through the ordeal, she should not have to carry the fetus to term.

The GOP is insane on this issue and they will pay a price for their ignorance and misogyny.

at some of the dumb shit people tell women who have been raped, like "Everything happens for a reason," or, "Why not just forgive and forget." But it takes a special kind of dumb shit to try and tie god up in it, too. Whatever god may or may not be, nothing that would do that to someone is anything worthy of worship.

God went on to say. " look, just because you folks give credence to a book that is just about the most edited, modified, and least accurate screed regarding my intentions in the history of bad books, doesn't mean I 'bless' a woman with a baby after some dipshit decides to commit a heinous act. So stop attributing this bullshit to me". Jesus was unavailable for comment.

Why did his Father go so wrong and created so much arrogance and short sighted destruction in this species? Maybe he should have rested after the 5th day.
