It's sad that Obama didn't have this power. If he did most of this gun problem would be behind us by now.

(7,533 posts)I guess I'm confusing NZ and Australia. All the gun-humpers on social media were screaming "SEE A WEAPONS BAN WON'T DO ANY GOOD!"
Man, just a simple announcement and it's done. How refreshing.

(6,625 posts)It's not done. Neither the Attorney General nor the Prime Minister of New Zealand rules by fiat. What he is announcing is the intention to seek a ban.

(20,006 posts)followed Australia's lead after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 which made a big difference there but apparently they didn't.

(36,747 posts)You can own a semi-automatic pistol in Australia. Its damn difficult get the H license, though. I think NZ is going to go for a complete ban.

(19,204 posts)(other than massive profits for the manufacturer) and that's to kill as many "targets" in the shortest amount of time possible. There is absolutely no good reason for civilians to have access to weapons of this type. None!
