One thing to note: This status report does not specify who exactly Rick Gates is cooperating with, or what he's cooperating about, so we don't know if it's Mueller's office, or prosecutors elsewhere (his plea deal requires him to cooperate with the government generally)

It's been more than a year since Gates took a plea deal. Compare the language in his status report — "continues to cooperate with respect to several ongoing investigations" — with what we saw in Michael Flynn's case this week — "his cooperation is otherwise complete"
