Some Things to Remember ...

… when dealing with Trumpsters:

You cannot appeal to the decency of people who have already demonstrated that they have no decency.

You cannot reach people by telling them the truth when they’ve obviously chosen to believe the lies.

You cannot educate those who are wilfully ignorant, or those who take pride in their own stupidity.

You cannot set out a roadmap for those who have no moral compass.

You cannot offer any defence of those who are willing to defend the indefensible.

You cannot save those who would rather see the destruction of their own country than abandon the idol who led to that destruction.

You cannot use logic to entice people to whom logic has now been reduced to illogical (and totally implausible) conspiracy theories.

You cannot lead the deliberately blind into the light, nor the deliberately deaf into a place where the truth can be heard.

You cannot seduce with patriotism those who have been so willingly bedded by the treasonous.

You cannot convince faux “Christians” that their religion admonishes them to do everything they refuse to do, and denounces everything they now embrace.

You cannot change the minds of the mindless, or ask those incapable of thought to think things through.

You cannot convince those who yelled “lock her up” that the people who are actually being locked up are the people they were convinced to put their trust in.

Above all, you cannot explain facts to people who don’t understand what a fact is.

The only way Trump-humpers will ever come to see the truth is if they start thinking for themselves. For many, it will take losing their jobs, getting hit with increased taxes, seeing their neighbours and friends bankrupted by tariffs, watching businesses in their own communities closing their doors. Most of them don’t care if someone else gets punched in the gut – but when they or those close to them are on the receiving end of that punch, they begin to see things differently.

Until that reality hits home, these people are lost to us. They will never be persuaded by the suffering of others, but only by their own pain. They will never have empathy towards the poor until they have been made poorer themselves. They will never recognize the need for affordable healthcare until they are faced with medical bills they cannot pay. They will never see the importance of environmental protections until their own tap water becomes unfit to drink.

It’s never about the welfare of the country as a whole, it’s all about them. And as more and more of Trump’s policies are implemented, a lot of “them” are about to get a very rude awakening.

I keep wondering if we'd start teaching critical thinking skills in schools, then the republinazi party wouldn't even get enough votes to come close to stealing elections.
