A gift

Going to the grocery store on a Saturday is never fun. Add that to the sour disposition that comes with paying attention to the news these days, and I was definitely in a grumpy mood. Of course, as I approached the one busy intersection on my route, the light turned red. I noticed a woman standing at the corner holding a large pink poster board, and mumbled to myself wondering what was up with this. Then she turned in my direction. Hand-lettered on the sign, a simple message — “The world is better because you’re in it.” I couldn’t help but give her a smile and thumbs-up as the light turned.

Color me a little bit un-jaded.

I am a 56 year old man who likes the grocery store. Smell of fried chicken when I walk in, produce aisle always clean and well stocked, a full aisle of cold beer, meat and fish counter with fresh food, frozen aisle with foods I can't believe people actually buy. It is like a state fair of food right in my neighborhood.

Whether it be grocery, clothes or otherwise. I only go when completely and totally necessary. Now, I have siblings who RELISH the very idea of 'shopping'. Of course, they're also brainwashed into believing 'More is Better', where I live with the thought of "Less is More"
