Evangelicals and Jews--in 90s I knew Evangelicals who wanted to have Jewish ancestry

They were mostly young.

One young man searched genealogy sites, did everything he could think of. He said if all else failed he wanted to marry a woman of Jewish heritage.

An older colleague stated that 1 reason so many US Evangelicals were so passionate about Jews and Israel was that they had a very bad conscience--they had totally ignored what was happening to Jews in nazi Germay even though there was lots of information available in the US about it.

Practically EVERYONE who was not Jewish in the US and the UK at the time ignored the plight of the Jews. Even one of our near patron saints, FDR, did little to deal with the problem. He could have bombed the camps and did not, even though Jewish leaders of the time begged him to do so.

3. Kind of embarrassing to admit this. But, when I was in college I was lonely and started

hanging out with the born again Christians in my dorm. I am and have always been a liberal Jew. These people were pretty nice to me and seemed very nice in general until one of them told me I was going to hell for not believing in Jesus. Eventually I left them and hung out with the liberal hippies and lived in co-ops on campus including a Jewish co-op.

I have felt through the years that the evangelicals see us Jews as lap dogs and pets. We are a bonus point if they can convert us. And us returning to Israel will bring about their rapture thing. That is the reason a lot of them are zionists. I by the way am not a zionist.

The evangelicals really creep me out.

8. No. Evangelicals aren't capable of caring about what happened in WWII to the Jews.

They have this belief that the Second Coming can't occur until all the Jews are converted, so if they have legitimate Jewish ancestry, clearly that indicates a conversion. And you can bet that your acquaintance who wanted to marry a Jewish woman wasn't about to raise their kids within Judaism. They simply have no genuine respect for any other religions or beliefs outside of their own narrow ones.
