An Unvaccinated Boy Got Tetanus And It Cost Over $800,000 To Save His Life

A 6-year-old boy who never got his childhood vaccinations spent nearly two months in a hospital and nearly died after contracting tetanus from a cut on his forehead, racking up more than $800,000 in medical expenses.

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention details the exhausting and expensive fight the family had with a highly-preventable disease.

Tetanus is a bacterial infection usually transmitted by soil: think not wearing gloves while gardening and cutting your finger on a thorn or scraping your knee at the park. The bacteria then releases toxins that cause painful spasms and cause a person to lose control of their body, according to the CDC, and lead to broken bones, pneumonia, and difficulty breathing. About 10% of cases are fatal.

"This case report reminds us that tetanus is severe and life-threatening illness," Dr. Judith Guzman-Cottrill, a pediatric infectious-disease specialist who co-authored the report and cared for the boy, told BuzzFeed News. "It was hard to see him suffer. Vaccinations can prevent these terrible diseases."

Or worse a suburban stream in most places in the US. The laws re vaccinations are there for a reason. Its the steady creep of the Russian-esque dumbing down of Americans.
The HPB Virus vax for children in the last 20 years has saved millions of people from a possibly deadly disease, and incalculable discomfort. Americans are under attack. Where's the pro-lifers on that one. Seems children being born diseased as well would be 'Christian".

after causing this life-threatening harm to their own kid, let alone the costs of 800k, they refused additional shots to immunize the child. It's important to remember that these people aren't just complete idiots. They were confronted with the consequences of their brain-dead decisions. And still they'd rather see their kid go through this again or worse accept his death as a result.

"But even after the near-death experience, the family declined the second dose of the vaccine needed to be immunized against tetanus and other recommended immunizations, the CDC reported."

going to dump their financial responsibilities onto the rest of us because they don't believe in VAC their kids. Kid get sick, a massive medical bill is then incurred, parents go to court and file bankruptcy, leaving the rest of us to shoulder this debt. This doesn't sound fair one bit. Incompetence should not pay (or mere belief should not pay, for in effect, this is what these parents (anti-VAC) are doing to the rest of us forced to shoulder their financial burden).

He spent 57 days in the ICU then had to go to a rehabilitation center for 2 weeks because he couldn't walk more than 20 feet. After seeing everything he went through, they refuse a booster?
