Donald Trump just screwed himself over bigly.
In a really dumb tweet the president accused Michael Cohen of lying to Congress. And this means Trump can be called to testify under oath. Which also means he might possibly commit and be charged with perjury.

Donald Trump has now publicly announced that he had a conversation with Michael Cohen about a pardon. Which means that he can be subpoenaed to testify about this conversation he claims took place.
He can now be subpoenaed by prosecutors in New York (SDNY) and also by investigators in the House of Representatives. - PoliticusUSA

(42,714 posts)Sorry, but this is just clickbait crap. Even assuming that anyone has any intention of calling Trump to testify (and the fact he said Cohen lied is pretty much irrelevant since Trump's testimony became relevant to any attempt to charge Cohen with lying to Congress the moment Cohen said he talked to Trump) if Trump says x and Cohen says y, there is no way to determine who is telling the truth and that's the end of it. The story's hyperbolic excitement is based on the assumption, for which there is absolutely no foundation, that Cohen secretly taped his conversation with Trump.

(22,670 posts)The OP article claims that Trump opened himself to being subpoenaed by publicly contradicting Cohen's testimony that Cohen never asked for a pardon. But as noted, Trump's testimony on the issue became relevant the moment Cohen made his statement. And the OP article is clickbait because assumes a fact most definitely not in evidence -that Cohen taped his conversations regarding a pardon with Trump. Is there something in the Post article to support that assumption?

(2,541 posts)The comment about a pardon during his testimony I thought it was kind strange that he would do such a thing but now I am thinking that he did this knowing trump would not be able to let that pitch go by without a tweet...
If so that was very well played.
