Jefferson and Adams are rolling over in their graves. I am so happy the founding fathers didn't say this, Don't fight the revolution until we know we can win.
Waiting to start impeachment hearings against Trump is dereliction of duty. Trump has committed so many high crimes and misdemeanors people have lost count. The Democrats in the house should have started impeachment hearings immediately. Make the case to the American voters. Force the Republicans to vote. If they refuse to convict that's their fucking problem. If the majority of the American people don't think Trump should be impeached after the House makes their case , that's their problem. Then the American people deserve Trump.
With every passing day Trumps crimes become normalized. He is a traitor. He lied to the American people about an attack on American. He has lied to the America people thousands of times. He has obstructed justice hundreds of times. He is subject too blackmail. He is a major national security risk. The house has a job to do in order to uphold the constitution and the rule of law. Waiting is not part of that job.
If Jefferson and Adams were alive today do you really believe they would be saying, let's wait till we have enough votes to start impeachment hearings or let's wait for the Mueller report? No fucking way.

(1,000 posts)Impeachment would bring many hidden items out, and put them together, if the Senate does not convict, at least some damage will be done.
On the Matter of Pence being as bad or worse, he does not have the political power to do much on his own.

(12,344 posts)and they weren't stupid. They knew you have to build your case. We are investigating. It doesn't matter if you call these investigations impeachment hearings or not. As of yet, we lack the confirmed facts for a case. We have a lot of unconfirmed and highly suggestive facts. But that's not enough. But we can't even get the most important testimony in open hearings yet.

(3,145 posts)If the House impeaches and the Senate acquits - Trump is exonerated. The media will proclaim his innocence and he and his supporters will be rubbing his "vindication" in our faces for years to come.
This is a one shot deal so we need all the evidence we can gather to make sure it sticks.

(94,591 posts)If Donald Trump is impeached and not convicted, he will claim that he was exonerated, and his prospects for re-election will shoot up (see: Clinton impeachment). Add to that, voter will complain that once again, their kitchen table issues were being ignored while the Democrats wasted time on a pointless impeach spectacle.

If the Democrats wait there will be no impeachment hearings at all. The closer we get to the election the less likely there'll be impeachment hearings. There is already a mountain of proof. Start the impeachment hearings now and then the American people can decide their own fate.
Not impeaching Trump will normalize everything he has done. That would be the end of our democracy.

(50,276 posts)on Democrats. Trump's entire campaign will be based on his victimhood. He wallows in victimhood. A failed impeachment is the biggest gift we could give him. Better to beat him in 2020 (if there aren't enough GOP votes for impeachment) and make the new Democratic POTUS promise not to pardon him. I want his orange ass in jail. If Republicans put country over party, Trump would already be gone.

(7,412 posts)Win or lose. Just my theory but I believe Trump will pardon Pence and then resign a week before leaving. Pence will then pardon him for basically every federal law on the books.

(1,587 posts)impeachment trial. Why give tRumps racist supporters a premature reason to make him into some kind of deplorable martyr? Better to continue and slowly intensify the five House investigations while educating with public hearings. Let the people do the impeachment at the polls, and the justice system the actual trials thereafter. This might be the smart political approach. The problem with this plan is it all depends on protecting the integrity of our voting systems.

(781 posts)closer and closer to 2020 debates and the actual "campaign season", it will be too late. If the House majority are not going to bring forth articles of impeachment and the resulting mpeachment investigation, they sure as hell won't do it then.
Whatever strategy our Democratic leadership is employing now regarding impeachment proceedings in the House, they are guessing too, unless they know when the Mueller/Barr report is going to be provided to Congress. There's not a guarantee Congress wont get a watered down version from Barr. Then the time consuming legal "fighting" will begin, and take more time.
IMO, we are running out of time. Bottom line, I fear asshole being re-elected again more than I fear any repercussions from a unsuccessful impeachment vote in the Senate. Remember, when the House does an impeachment investigation, open hearings with all these witnesses is typical. Get all the abuse of power/crimes/obstruction out to the public so hopefully even if impeachment fails (because of unpatriotic Senate rethugs), he will lose in 2020.
