(90,773 posts)after you complete the "challenge" you then mail in a form and you get sent a "Challenge" coin.
I've seen them around.
It's bullshit for bullshit.

(90,773 posts)They are meant to entice military members. Come in covers for all branches.

I still have around here somewhere...

(90,773 posts)Probably at church services both on and off post. Bible groups, that kind of thing.
You can request the holy book of your choice and have one issued - bible, torah, quran...others.
As for the military challenge thing, that's not regulation.

(19,565 posts)It's a direct branch off of the American Bible Society. You may have heard of them? They made the news somewhat recently for their assent into the current form of evangelicalism after a 200 year run previously as a diverse Christian organization.
More on that here: https://nonprofitquarterly.org/2018/06/06/how-to-pull-off-a-mission-hijacking-the-case-of-the-american-bible-society/

(90,773 posts)All the whining about religious freedom when the actual goal is to force people to conform to a certain way of thinking.
They really mean my brand of religion or the highway.

(19,565 posts)The worst thing is, they prey on people who can't see through their ploy and want desperately to belong somewhere.
It simultaneously hurts both my heart and my head when I think of it.

(90,773 posts)for a job well done and other reasons. Collecting coins from different branches is a big thing. Be awarded one from a different branch from the one you serve.
It's not simply a "right" thing though a lot of non-military right-wingers would see them along the same line as their yellow ribbon magnets. Like it shows support for the troops. Snort.
The bible challenge bullshit is taking a cue from the military challenge coin...for bragging rights or some other BS I guess.
Like I said earlier...bullshit for bullshit.

(100,081 posts)I shall have to go do some more research on this.

(90,773 posts)He got it from pissing well above the call of duty.
An officer from NORAD was in the bathroom at the same time as my idiot during a social event and struck up a conversation at the urinals. Something my husband hates. He wants to do his business and go.
My husband tells it better but the end result was the officer giving my husband a NORAD Space Command coin.
We still laugh about it.

(19,565 posts)You get this.
They've taken a reward system which already existed and twisted it to their use (they're an outside group for those who don't know) to try and play on a system the military already had in play with these folks.
If what they're selling is so good then they wouldn't need gimmicks to prey on people.
