Amazon driver shot in St. Charles by man accused of being angry over handicapped parking spot
By Denise Hollinshed St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Mar 7, 2019
A man who police say shot an Amazon delivery driver in the back after the two argued over a handicapped parking spot outside a Target Store has been charged. Larry Thomlison, 65, was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The injured man, 21, was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition with a gunshot wound to the back, authorities said. He is at risk of paralysis.
A posting to a GoFundMe page started for the victim identifies him as Jaylen Walker and says he has no feeling in his lower extremities. The page says he has no health insurance and set a $50,000 goal for assisting in his recovery. He works for a third-party provider that delivers for Amazon.
There was a tussle, and authorities said they ended up on the ground. During the struggle, Walker noticed Thomlison had a gun, according to the charges. Walker backed away from Thomlison, then turned and ran, the charges say.
Thomlison then pulled the gun from his waistband and shot Walker in the back, charges say.

ps..Neither of them sound very handicapped if they're fist fighting, running away, shooting someone gunslinger style etc. imo.
In any modern country, the political leadership have more power than anyone to set the tone for what is and isn't acceptable behavior.
Republicans know exactly what they're doing.

(17,863 posts)Nothing like a good guy with a gun. Note he threw the first punch as well. Also victim was retreating (even turned back) when shot.
Of course they will always find an excuse.
At a press conference Wednesday, the prosecutor said that Thomlison should have been more responsible because he had been through the St. Charles Police Citizen Academy. He was also a member of the Community Emergency Response Team, a group of area volunteers who receive training from professionals in basic response skills such as performing CPR or treating various injuries. Authorities said he had a concealed carry permit.

(14,492 posts)Training is good and should be mandatory but no amount of training matters to a person who has anger control issues, or happens to be in the percentile of humans that are psychopaths. In fact, psychopaths will use credentials such as training badges or permits to gain access to those they want to harm.
Add a layer of racism, xenophobia, or misogyny on top of that and people are bound to get hurt...... ......
Not saying that's the case here, but I do suspect his high level of training will be used against him in court.

(5,504 posts)They claim that they carry because they want to be prepared in case they're a victim of a crime. That's garbage, imo.
They carry because it appeals to a fantasy. They love the feeling of power having a gun in public gives them. Part of them also secretly hopes that someone messes with them, giving them what they've always hoped for - the opportunity to take their gun out and teach someone a lesson. You also get types that concealed carry because they're wannabe cops. It's all part of the gun hero fantasy.

I could legally open carry my handgun in my own home and property but I prefer to keep it concealed so that visitors, delivery people, neighbors or whoever doesn't see it. I'm carrying a gun now as I type this.
Larry is handicapped? Yet was able to tussle, fall to the ground and continue to tussle, get up, take aim and shoot a running man in the back?
Now Jaylan may well be handicapped.

My point being - I was a bag boy and had health insurance. Everyone did. How did we get here, to a point where millions are without coverage??

TLDR : Amazon driver parked illegally in a Handicapped spot has it recorded/pointed out by other driver instead of calling the police and Amazon. The two argue/tussle not-Amazon driver pulls gun and shoots Amazon driver.

(1,733 posts)The Amazon driver was in a handicapped spot. Probably should drug test him, too. And see if he has any unpaid library fines.
Anything to divert attention from the fact that the old guy shot him down in cold blood.
Old guy never would have started anything if he wasn't carrying. See? Guns DO kill people.

(14,764 posts)Or warehouse workers?
They made record profits last year. They intentionally limit the hours these employees work to keep them part time and without benefits, yet they have enough work to easily hire full time workers.
They put such heavy pressure on them - measuring them to tenths of a minute per stop - that the drivers are forced to park illegally in most cases to keep delivery time low. Metrics drive every position at amazon. If tou fall behind they can your ass.
So don't blame the driver for using a handicapped spot. Blame amazon. Also blame the store for not having a delivery area the driver could use.
Corporations are responsible for the conduct, and well being of their employees while on the job. They should be paying all medical expenses directly. crickets. Oh, that will be $108 for the damaged uniform.

(34,136 posts)Thomlison pulled out a cellphone to photograph the illegally parked delivery van, and posted the image to social media, according to charges.
Then Thomlison, who was driving a car with a handicapped placard, confronted Walker about the parking spot, charges say. He put his phone in the face of the Amazon driver in an attempt to photograph him. Walker pushed the phone away and Thomlison punched the driver, charges say.

That said, even though Walker was parked illegally Thomlison had no right to directly confront him and definitely should not have shot him.
I do find it ironic that Walker will now have the right to use handicapped spaces.

(14,764 posts)It says he was talking to another driver. We don't know he wasn't in a time crunch, or what he was talking about. But we do know amazon puts their drivers under incredible time pressure. So much so they drop deliveries if they fall behind and then penalize them.
It is a high pressure job. Everything is timed. Everything is captured. If drivers werre talking, they were doing it for amazon, not chit chatting.
