On Friday, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson wondered why, noting that Trump has failed to deliver on most of his campaign promises.

“I’ve got the perfect slogan for President Trump’s reelection campaign,” Robinson writes. “Promises Made, Promises Not Kept, But I’m Betting My Voters Are Too Stupid to Notice.”..........................

.....................Trump has also not lived up to promises on North Korean de-nuclearization, a revamp of the Affordable Care Act, infrastructure, and his promise to “drain the swamp” in Washington.

“Result: Perhaps the most corrupt administration in U.S. history, riddled with nepotism and teeming with swamp creatures.”

Given all of that policy failure, Robinson concludes that Trump must be banking on the stupidity of his followers to get re-elected.

“He apparently believes his loyal supporters are the dumbest, most gullible people on earth. We shall see if he’s right.”.........

That's why they don't care about all the broken promises. He's kept the most important one in their mind.

Eugene Robinson is being way too kind.

Trump thinks his supporters are the most gullible people on earth. Are they really?

I’ve got the perfect slogan for President Trump’s reelection campaign: “Promises Made, Promises Not Kept, But I’m Betting My Voters Are Too Stupid to Notice.”

Let’s take stock:

Trump promised to build a wall along the 2,000-mile southern border, with the cost of the “big, beautiful” barrier to be borne by Mexico. Trump made this pledge dozens of times in a call-and-response ritual at his campaign rallies. “Who’s going to pay for the wall?” he would demand, and the cheering crowds would yell the answer: “Mexico!”

Result: Not a single mile of Trump’s wall has been built. When Mexican officials made clear they would never pay a cent toward construction, Trump asked Congress for the money. Even with Republicans in control of both the House and the Senate for two full years, Congress declined to waste taxpayer dollars on the project. When Democrats took the House, Trump declared a “national emergency” in an attempt to steal funds from other projects. Still, despite what he claims, Trump has built no new wall.

They're defined by their awfulness as human beings.

I know I shouldn't generalize but the next non-repulsive Trump supporter I converse with (in person or online) will be first.

Trump appeals to them.

Trump is the sort of person who sees something needing to be done, then goes about it in his own way, and declares it a success.

How he gets from step one to step 10 doesn't matter to him, legal or not. And the important thing is, he claims success even when there is none. Claims the job is done, when it isn't. (Wall built, North Korea disarmed, etc.)
Or just walks away saying it wasn't important anyway. (Infrastructure, health care.)

The average Trump voter wants the same thing, they want to go from where they are now, to where they want to be in life, without needing to worry too much about the steps in between. It should 'just happen'. Trump shows it can be done, if you don't look too closely.

Got some relatives who are just waiting for 'life to be fair to them'. Others, are doers, go getters.
I bet I know which would like Trump, and which would hate him.

Fortunately, there are plenty of people in power who care very much how Trump, or anyone else, gets from step one to step 10.

he really didn't care much about what he said or who he offended, because wasn't actually playing to win. He was going for the publicity and having a great time. As time passed, even Trump was surprised at how it didn't matter what he did or said, his supporters stayed loyal. That's why he made the comment about shooting someone on Fifth Ave. He was sincerely as shocked as everyone else.

All of this led him to believe that he doesn't need to listen to generals, advisers, intelligence, diplomats, or anyone who is an expert at anything, because he's doing it "my way" and trusting his gut. This is all thanks to millions of uninformed, gullible supporters. The reality TV voters!

...being interviewed on NPR this morning and they would vote for him again because of the economy (in their view) and the increased jobs in their community. They said that's all they care about. In any event, wish Robinson had talked about the economy. That really is the only issue for them. They don't care about the country as a whole or the survival of democracy.

His voters think of themselves as being in the know about “what is really going on,” whatever that might be in their credulous little minds. It’s how conspiracy theories sustain themselves... people like to think they’re so smart that they aren’t falling for what the majority believe.

I think “Trump voter” needs to be equated with “sucker” somehow. Not by making fun of them, because they’ll only dig in deeper. But somehow they need to be educated about how Fox and Trump are basically telling them “who are you going to believe?... Me or your lying eyes?”
