where every child and friend of the owner got employment. They at least did their jobs, though.

I was trying to think of a similar occurrence in the past, but there is none. Adult children of President's have lived their own lives. The Bush daughters, Dubya and siblings (I had not heard of Dubya until he ran for POTUS, and didn't know he existed during Poppy's term), the Carter sons, the Fords, Tricia and Julie, LBJ, they all lived their own lives and were not at the White House except for perhaps social events.
