The Basic Training Bible is the English Standard Version (ESV) and available in all four branch covers, as well as the generic digi-camo, flag cover, and pink camo. There is also a new website called Military Bible Challenge where you can read the Bible and interact with each other virtually. Its like having your quiet time with your group.

Edited to add - "Valor is the Cru ministry for cadets, midshipmen, and veterans in the US and around the world." - http://www.valormovement.com/
Campus Crusade for Christ relocated its world headquarters from Arrowhead Springs, San Bernardino, California to Orlando, Florida in 1991.[3] The current president of the organization is Steve Douglass.[4]
In 2011, Campus Crusade for Christ in the United States changed its name to Cru, to avoid the negative connotation of "crusade" from the historical Crusades (particularly to Muslim communities), and to reflect the fact that much of the organization's work was no longer limited to college campuses.

If you are brainwashed by this, and have not been educated to discern, I can see it's easy to go from : Christ as Commander (the book tells you to obey him) flipped to: Spanky is the Commander (so he's Christ.) Pure evil.

(7,686 posts)Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties."[1]

(14,858 posts)Crucifixion is a horrible way to go, for certain, but Jesus got to rise afterward and hang out with his friends for awhile, eat and drink and so on. And where is he now, according to the stories? He ascended into Heaven, where he's cooling his heels, waiting for his time to return, kill off everyone he doesn't like, and rule the world.
Lots of other people got crucified, too, but they all stayed dead permanently.

(14,858 posts)There are over 1000 denominations, plus countless "independent" and "nondenominational" churches, and who knows how many independent practitioners with their own unique interpretations. All of them are different. A person can believe or disbelieve just about anything and still be considered one flavor of Christian or another. Being more specific makes a lot of sense.

(14,858 posts)A lot of Christians write extensively in their bibles, underlining or highlighting passages that they feel are particularly important, making notes in the margins, etc. It's also common for a Bible that's a gift to have something written from the person who gave it to the recipient. I'll grant that getting a celebrity to sign their Bibles is a bit strange, but considering that some of these churches are preaching that God put Trump in office to implement God's plan, it's kind of understandable.

I think what the poster you replied to was thinking about was a verse at the end of revelation that says changing anything, like making up new verses, etc would be an affront. underlining or making notes for for future clarification isn't bad.
Chin music
(23,002 posts)That's all. To each his own. If it is in fact the word of God,...jotting human notes, and etc. in it doesn't seem to me to be respectful, and lacks dignity. Just me though. No biggie. It's a book. I try not to write in any books.

(14,858 posts)It's entirely possible to think people are being ridiculous without hating them.
And let's not pretend this is normal behavior. It's weird as hell what they're doing. You know, lots of people here have lived through disasters, natural or man-made, and have had friends and neighbors die as a result. I wonder how many of them were inspired by their experience to run out and ask a disgusting creature like Trump to autograph their religious items? I suspect the number is zero.
BlueStater
(7,596 posts)The people who asked this vile asshole to sign their bibles may or may not have experienced tragedy and I'm sorry that happened if they did. That being said, it still doesn't excuse their disgusting support for this septic tank of a human and how they had this scumbag, who has lived a life going completely against what the bible teaches, vandalize their books. Younger generations see this idiocy and hypocrisy from so-called Christians and it's a large chunk of the reason why so many are getting turned off from religion.

(12,618 posts)I live in Santa Rosa, CA. Half of my city burned down year and a half ago in a Northern California fire storm. Trump not only refused to come and visit us, he denied us federal aid in the aftermath.
A few months ago we lost another town, Paradise. The entire town gone. Trump blamed our state for the fire by saying that we hadn't adequately raked the leaves on the FEDERALLY OWNED forest land that he's responsible for. Trump can kiss my ass, and so can those bible thumping, brain dead cultists that are slobbering over his EKG-like signature on their brainwashing manuals.
