Newsweek: Ilhan Omar attacks Barack Obama..

Is this real?..This was published today. I have tried to check this out..YOu can hit this link and check it out yourself. Why? Is this person referring to Barack Obama?

from the above article:

“We can’t be only upset with Trump,” she told Politico. “His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar says. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

Is this Democratic representative knocking Obama? I guess she can. But I am not sure that is what we need today. But that is an opinion.

From the Politico article referenced:

"As she saw it, the party ostensibly committed to progressive values had become complicit in perpetuating the status quo. Omar says the “hope and change” offered by Barack Obama was a mirage. Recalling the “caging of kids” at the U.S.-Mexico border and the “droning of countries around the world” on Obama’s watch, she argues that the Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework as his Republican successor.

“We can’t be only upset with Trump. … His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar says. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”"

Pretty clear.

Take a few policies you have an issue with and give the impression that we’re talking about two very similar people at the end of the day, Trump and Obama. This is so many degrees of wrong I don’t know where to begin.

This representative, if I am understanding correctly, has put these two people on an equal footing.
Trump and Obama are totally unequal. So many differences that there is not enough room to discuss them. But why would any Democrat do something like this. Does she understand what she has said in this interview?
Is there going to be an apology?

18. Omar announced they were left-wing tea partiers.
Fri Mar 8, 2019, 06:19 PM

Does she know nothing about the Tea Party history? Or everything?

The Tea Party was a undisciplined (and bigoted) right wing populist anger that was secretly harnessed and directed by agents of the KOCH BROTHERS and turned against themselves -- and of course us. Until the Kochs couldn't control them any more, formation of the "Tea Party" to defeat liberal progressivism -- and themselves -- was the Koch alliance's great coup.

After they had to pull their support, the populist Tea Party dissolved and morphed into the populist Trump movement, with a few in the populist Sanders movement. Most of their wealth-backed reps are now no longer in congress, but some of those hard-right conservatives, who depend on pleasing the ultrawealthy backers they supposedly despised, are still there. They don't have to please constituents or party leaders, only their donors, and they spend most of their energy fighting mainstream Republicans for power.

This tea party remnant in the house is the far-right group who call themselves the Freedom Caucus, lead by Jim Jordan who lost to Kevin McCarthy -- who is actually LESS extremist! These ruthlessly uncooperative and unprincipled power seekers pride themselves on their rigid hard-right principles and refusal to cooperate to succeed.

And this is what Omar is comparing her group to? "The Squad" also includes Rashida Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez, and Ayanna Pressley.

I'm afraid her doubling down on the formal condemnation of her remarks with condemnation of President Obama and now comparing her "squad" to a left-wing version of obstructionist right-wing extremists may be a bad sign for the Democratic Party. Let's hope this is just more undisciplined acting out. But if so, let's hope it's a bad sign for her. Squabbling and eating each other is the most common end for radical/extremist groups.

more than the "populist" Trump, whose alt-right movement is viewed sypathetically, as misguided folk who are simply oppressed by globalism etc.

The alt-left/Justice Dems/Greens/DSA, like the alt-right/teaparty, want to transform Western establishment parties into something that resembles the socialist (Corbyn, etc) and fascist (Le Pen, etc) parties of Europe - all who ultimately answer to Putin.

that Ms. Omar's allegation of dueal-loyalties was a projection of her own self.

She seems to have a loyalty to every Muslim world grievance and instead of being nuanced about it, she is using a sledgehammer to the very people who have been sympathetic to her cause - such as Barack Obama, both of whose fathers were Muslim.

President Obama was not just "polished" but he had an in-depth understanding of the issues and he was never one-sided and he was humble before the Muslim world in Egypt and ruthless when he had to take out bin Laden. Ms. Omar only wants it her way without taking into account both sides' arguments.

The Truman Doctrine, which sees no moral equivalence between pro-West and anti-West actors, has been the basis of our foreign policy for 70+ years.

The world is a messy place, and Dem presidents have generally been strong, but fair and even handed.

that the personality cult often invoked in politics needs to be tamed.

All previous presidents had a certain charm and self confidence about them, but how does that impact their actual policies?

Two separate things altogether. Some may not see that.

In short - I'd rather go to a short, ugly dentist or motor mechanic who is fully competent at his job, rather than one who looks great, has good customer relations manners, but is bad at his fundamental job.

There is no reason why anyone needs to tolerate Omar's petty bullshit.
