Yep, we're getting the whole "If you dare criticize Israel, you're antisemitic!" trope.

It's being pushed by shills right here on DU! Nope, don't you dare criticize Netanyahu's corrupt, right-wing, Muslim-oppressing, and yes, I'll say it, fascist government, otherwise that means you hate all Jews!

Gimme a fucking break!

Some people will always equate the two because it's so damn easy to cry antisemitism and silence criticism.

Failure to read the Congress Ladies full article caused this whole name calling story.

Knowing a bit about her background and her Community in which she lives. This young Lady has broken all the accepted Norms of her Cultural and Family upbringing. If one doubts, take the time to inform ones self about her background and her struggles.

I have been seeing expressed is that it is possible to legitimately criticize Israel, but then somehow no criticism is ever legitimate.

Unless I missed it, she doesn't even mention AIPAC, she just says "powerful lobbying group" here:

So, for me, I want to talk about—I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country. I want to ask: Why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA, of fossil fuel industries or Big Pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying group that is influencing policy? Right?

Is there something worse in that excerpt? Were there other remarks that are not included on that page? (as posted above: https://www.democracynow.org/2019/3/8/ilhan_omar_in_her_own_words)

Something isn't adding up. Did that many well-meaning people get duped? Or am I missing something?

To be clear, I am pretty center/nuanced on I/P. There are good and bad actors on both sides, IMO. It's a mess. But I'm not seeing the "hate" or anti-Semitism there, just a comment about why can't we talk about lobbying by AIPAC.

I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.

I have bolded the specific phrase. That phrase is being translated into "dual loyalty" which has a dark history, but I think equating the two is not legitimate. In a triumph of perception over reality now that "dual loyalty" can stand for what she really said she can be shutdown as just another anti-Semitic. In my view, those doing that are harming their own cause.

It's like if one says they don't like Trump, his administration, and their policies, that equals being anti-American.

Our wonderful Senate's first bill of this year was an attempt to make it illegal to boycott Israel. S1.

"The bill would have also codified into law $38 billion in defense assistance for Israel over 10 years and would protect states and local governments that pass laws punishing individuals and companies who endorse the boycott, divestment and sanction of Israel in support of Palestinian human rights, said IMEU, according to WAFA."

Thankfully, it went nowhere.
