Best to Worst States for Women

http://www.ivillage.com/best-and-worst-states/8-a-434913

Not new, but it's new to me

here has been a great deal of talk of late about women and politics: What we want, how we’ll vote, what is good for us. Politicians and pundits love to stir up arguments around the most divisive social and moral issues, but we know what is truly most important to us as women: We want to live in a land where women can thrive; where we can live in good health, get quality care for our kids, and have a government that truly gets our priorities.

To help American women make the best decisions in those voting booths come November, iVillage examined the quality of life for women in our country today -- and we found that all states are not created equal. So, we made a list of the 50 Best to Worst States for Women.

See our rankings below. You may be surprised

Lots o' "red states" near the bottom. Life for women isn't good where the men are in control and have no respect for them.

I expected the top ten at least to be blue and they were plus 2-3 more. I expected the bottom 10 to be red and they were, didn't look to see how many more bottom red states. Republicans are just toxic to women. The chart proves it.

from #43 to #9. My father had a job offer with Boeing -- he was an engineer. I've visited Indiana a few times as an adult and I've always been grateful my parents decided on the move.

I have always lived in a top 10 state - I have even complained before, but I can't imagine what it must be like for women in the bottom red states. Probabably sheer hell.

I thought this was common knowledge now?

The best places for women are all blue will the worst are all red, well duh.

The best places to live are all blue while the worst places are all red.

Sure it may be a matter of opinion to some but scientific data is now proving it as fact.

In analysis after analysis on the best and worst places to live, blue states are always on top with the red states bring up the rear.
Best schools – Blue State
Best for Women – Blue States
Best for Children – Blue States
Best Jobs – Blue States
And on it goes.

But worry not the red states are leading the nation in:
Infant mortality
Evangelicals
Gun Ownership
Divorce
Abortion
HS Dropouts
IQs below 100
Just to name a few.

Why any sane individual would live in a red state is beyond me.

I agree with you on much, but there are lots of reasons that sane individuals would live in red states. Here are a few of them:

1) It's home. It's where family, friends and work are. Uprooting yourself isn't always easy.

2) There are many blue enclaves in red states that are good places to live.

3) It's not affordable to move.

regardless of rational for doing so.

However if they choose to live in a backwards regressive state, oh well, just don't whine about it they did CHOOSE to live there.

Secondly, how are the red states ever going to change if all liberals move out of them?

People don't choose where they're born for one thing. They don't choose to be poor.

You seem to lack the compassion that's a BIG part of the liberal ethos.

neither does being poor.

poor people walk or swim to this country every day.

walking from a red state to a blue state is easy in comparison.

only those who are physically incapable of leaving choose to stay, period, end of story.

Geez we only have one Representative - not many elected offices in general in our state but for 8 years we had Ruth Ann Minner as our governor. Shouldn't that count for something.
