On Kirstjen Nielsen's (aka Eva Braun) grilling today: Prepare yourself for a soulless "woman"

There have been Secretary Nielsen’s in every brutal regime. Soulless, amoral administrators cheerfully committed to delivering efficient brutality. In other regimes, they’re the first ones the brutalized seek out to rend limb from limb after the fall of the regime.

.@RepBonnie: What is a chainlink fence enclosed into a chamber on a concrete floor? A cage? @SecNielsen: It's a detention space, mam REP BONNIE: Is it different from what you put dogs in? NIELSEN: Yes REP BONNIE: In what sense? NIELSEN: It's larger B: Sounds like a dog cage

NIELSEN says that "so far this year" three children have died in CBP custody. She says she hasn't spoken with the affected families.

Wow. @RepBarragan berates Nielsen over her apparent lack of knowledge of US asylum law.

BARRAGAN: "You said you waited to give direction on how to implement the zero tolerance policy, because you wanted to do it with compassion. Do you know how outrageous that sounds? You wanted to separate children and families and you wanted to do it with compassion?!"

Woman who is apparently unfamiliar with human children shocked to discover ripping them away from their parents is bad.

Under questioning from @RepUnderwood, Nielsen admits she was broadly unfamiliar with research indicating kids are traumatized by being separated from their parents before DHS implemented its "zero tolerance" policy

She's either incompetent or a horrible person. I think she's both.

At issue was the President’s recent claim that there have “never [been] so many apprehensions ever in our history” of undocumented people attempting to cross the southern border. That is inaccurate — the number of crossings has hovered around a decades-long low for several years — but, under questioning from Rep. James Langevin (D-RI) Nielsen tied herself in knots in an apparent attempt to avoid contradicting Trump.

“So, Secretary Nielsen, what the President said was not accurate, was it?” Langevin asked.

“I apologize, I don’t know the full context of that,” Nielsen said, before pivoting to talk about the number of families apprehended at the border, a subset of total apprehensions.

“I just want to know, what the President said, is it accurate or not?” Langevin tried again.

Nieslen {sic Nielsen]refused to answer — “I just don’t know the context of his statement,” she said — despite acknowledging a minute earlier that border apprehensions had decreased by several hundred thousand since 2000.

The “good” employee who would normally pass as a decent person who nevertheless has no problem following orders that lead to the death of innocents simply because it is her job.

And no matter what anyone says to her she defends and justifies her actions vigorously, adamantly, with scorn and pride.

Nurse Ratchet looks like a sweetheart in comparison.

the separation of parents and children is that they've taken nursing babies from their mothers. Nursing babies! Every single person who was involved with those deserves something terrible. It's horrifying to me that none of those involved seems to have said, "Wait. This isn't right."
