Robert Reich: Trump will not go quietly

Professor Reich's article in the Guardian: If Trump loses, we know what to expect: anger, fear and disruption:

Among the most chilling words uttered this week by Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, were “given my experience working for Mr Trump I fear that if he loses the election in 2020 that there will never be a peaceful transition of

................//snip

Every time he has lost a legislative or legal battle during his presidency he has blamed the other side, and has lashed back: shuttering the government, declaring a national emergency, whipping up his followers against recalcitrant judges, Democrats, the media or whomever he holds responsible.

................//snip

Trump’s emissaries have already seeded the battlefield. Last April, Sean Hannity of Fox News predicted that an attempt to impeach Trump (or presumably remove him from office any other way) would cause “fighting and dividing this country at a level we’ve never seen … those that stand for truth and those that literally buy into the corrupt deep state attacks against a duly elected president”.

Trump’s former consiglieri Roger Stone has warned of “an insurrection like you’ve never seen” and claimed that any politician who voted to oust Trump “would be endangering their own life”.

This is what I've been expecting; if Trump loses 2020 or is impeached, he will whip up the hardcore, crazy-ass core of his supporters to violence. Remember Lt Christopher Hasson, Eric Rudolph, Tim McVey, et al.

by either his loss in 2020 and / or other means will be met with cold, hard, and never ending determination to follow the lawful transition of power in this country as it should be. I also bet you that lots of military and police will there at our side being that you just about insulted everybody in this country already with your stupid nonsense.

Bring it, cowards. Bring it.

roger stone is full of bs. So is sean Hannity. All of the thugs that Reich mention are full of bs too. Traitors, all of them. No respect for the rule of law, and only believe in thug rule.

They should be put on trial for treason should an attempt to circumvent the laws of this country should rump lose. I'm kind of sick and tired of hearing all of these doom and gloom 'possible' stories. The same thing was predicted when the 2018 Nov. elections resulted in the House reverting back to democratic control. Nothing happened.

IMHO, rump will resign. rump is old. Poor health. Poor lifestyle. He'll eventually come up with a story about his health, blah blah blah thus I need to leave office (and I don't care, w/ over 9000 plus lies, who really cares?). Just go.

topics now even as we speak, where judgments are already being made about candidates. A little too early I would say IMHO to make a decision on a candidate already? With no primaries undertaken or etc., some have already made their decisions?

That's fine if that is what they want, but it is not what I want. I really want the time to examine each of these candidates and see how they hold up against rump and his ridiculous insults, as well as the issues.

Who really truly knows what is in the future? Jan. 2021 (next democratically elected president is installed) is a long ways off still. Issues and topics of concern can change over time (and it has, numerous times).

The much hyped Y2K non-event was right up there with the more recent Mayan calendar doomsday prediction. People can't seem to get enough of that stuff, and it typically ends like a Peggy Lee song ("Is That All There Is?&quot . Like many before him, Trump came and Trump will go.

Thanks and I do like the 'political Y2K'...it does fit a lot of scenarios like the one here where 'oh my god if rump isn't elected or something happens blah blah blah, that disaster will happen'. Fear mongering. That's all it is.

Take care.

Right wing hate radio will prosper in the short term, though. Which may be the reason why Limbaugh and Hannity like to keep him riled up.

But except for a few desperate ignorant white supremacists who may try something, any transition of the presidency will go forward as expected.

He won't ever concede no matter how big of a pounding he gets. Then there will be the very "interesting" time between the election and the inauguration of the new president when a lame duck Trump will be crying to his base to do something, begging the Supreme Court to intercede. And then we'll all be wondering if he is going to vacate the White House without force.

It could be a very dangerous time for all of us.

The time between the election and that swearing in will be fraught, no doubt.

He would have to barricade himself in the WH on inauguration day, but then U.S. Marshals (likely) would help him out. O U T.
