OSLO The protocol for nominating and choosing recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize is one of the worlds most scrutinized and secretive.
The identities of the candidates are kept secret, and indeed, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prizes, is forbidden from divulging any information about its deliberations for 50 years, and even then, only for scholarship purposes and at its discretion.
But a wrinkle in this time-honored process the peace prize was first awarded in 1901 emerged on Tuesday, when the committee announced that it had uncovered what appeared to be a forged nomination of President Trump for the prize. The matter has been referred to the Oslo police for investigation.
Moreover, the forgery appears to have occurred twice: Olav Njolstad, the secretary of the five-member committee, said it appeared that a forged nomination of Mr. Trump for the prize was also submitted last year and was also referred to the police. (The earlier forgery was not disclosed to the public at the time.)

(10,279 posts)the Nobel Peace Prize and, subsequently, the Norwegian Nobel Committee discovered that the nominating letter was forged. That would fit in perfectly with his impeachment and conviction to remove him from the office of the presidency.
Not to be. But, maybe he will be linked to the forgery.

(46,051 posts)Is the forgery of the signatures of the people who nominated him? My understanding was people in the Japanese government were convinced to nominate him somehow. Does this mean one of Trump's operatives forged the signatures of Japanese officials?
Holy crap!

(14,532 posts)The committee called the person whose signature was on the form. He said, nope, not me. I am assuming after a great fit of laughter.

(42,770 posts)Enough detail for me. Of all the nominators who is from US? If any. It's not only forgery but theft of someone's entry form too. How in the world did they do that. Wouldn't the real person say, oh hell, where's my damn Nobel form? Unless it was stolen after they filled it out.
Love the sound of the police there. Sounds like a Scandinavian crime novel. Bet they are wondering why our FBI hasn't found culprit in a year

Before Tweets and Facebook comments, there was the good-old-fashioned letter to the editor, which let people air their grievances with a publication. One such letter from 1992 resurfaced in New York magazines 50th anniversary edition, out now, and to some people its writing style sounds familiar.
The letter in question, which can also be read on New York magazines website, says
Carolin Gallego December 7, 1992
Theres no shortage of articles about the unique way the President speaks and writes, which is what makes Gallegos letter so intriguingparticularly the final sentence. Also of note is the fact that Trumps longtime assistant was named Norma Foerderer. She retired in 2005 and was replaced by Rhona Graff.
In a phone call, Trumps longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen told Washingtonian he did not recognize the name Carolin Gallego.

If I was a betting man, I'd wager the two Nobel nomination letters were penned by ?John Barron and John Miller, two known Pseudonyms of the orange anus.

(42,770 posts)The blame went to a Meredith McIver . She had zero history and people thought that she might not really exist? I thought about him making this name up and looked at his family tree. His great great grandmother was a McIver. Btw, that website is gone. It was called trump ancestry or something.

We are seeing unprecedented progress toward peace, and its a direct result of President Trumps strong leadership, Messer said in a statement Friday.
Rep. Mike Bishop (R-Mich.) also suggested the Nobel Prize for Trump, writing, Other than the Reagans triumph in tearing down the Berlin Wall, this is the most impactful moment for world peace in my lifetime. If the actions made by these leaders result in a peace treaty and the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Moon Jae-in and President Trump must be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

(1,832 posts)... since all members of national assemblies and national governments (cabinet members/ministers) can nominate - plus at lot of other people, so to be nominates is in no way a really big honor. It is a bit trickier to actually receive it - but not that hard when they hand it out to groups. Since I live in the EU, I got a Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, given to all of the European Union for some silly reason.
I got two more, which was a bit more deserved. In 2016 as Danish part of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, an then in 1996 as part of International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Well, in the first example I had to share with half a billion others, and for the last ones we were happily thousands - but hey, I claim it anyway.
There has been many very valid complaints, that winners were far away from Nobel's idea - like the EU.
