If he was impeached, it would likely end the Congressional investigations.
He most likely would not be convicted in the Senate.
Also, Republicans could get back to campaigning and explaining how they are going to keep America from going over to the "socialists".
But, there is no impeachment on the horizon.
There are only investigations. Democrats are turning over the rocks and exposing Donald Trump and the criminal GOP. And there is a lot to investigate. None of it is good for the GOP.
Facts are stubborn things. Eventually, the weight of the facts will become so obvious that not even Republicans can deny them. That is the direction we are going.
Republicans should hope for an impeachment hearing. That is the best that could happen to them.

(10,252 posts)By that I mean that their minds are filled with dark delusions and confusions -- and habitually so. Not a one of them has the honor to ever say, "I was wrong. I made a mistake." Nope they will deny and defend and pontificate and obscurate. Their minds are filled with primarily greed for money, power, fame, and self-cherishing.

(32,641 posts)Mueller cannot bring impeachment charges, only criminal indictments if they're called for. Once the House gets Mueller's final report, they'll be holding ALL the cards. I guess that makes Adam Schiff the ultimate catbird. We'll see soon enough.

(6,262 posts)and there is a solid chance of conviction.
As of now, McConnell's Senate will never convict.
However, it is rapidly coming to a point that the House may feel compelled to impeach even without conviction just because it would be a dereliction of duty not to at least try with treason in the air.
Question- If Trump is not impeached and convicted, but vacates office by resignation or losing 2020, will he retain the topmost security clearance afforded to previous past Presidents?

(22,130 posts)repug to begin with would be given a free pass and not suffer anything for allowing this to happen. No, I want them all to suffer. All of their crimes need to be put out into the public eye and they all need to be held accountable. No easy way out.
