Whoopsie: "Gun slips from waistband, shoots man in genitals"

MARION, Ind. (WISH) - A man in Indiana accidentally shot himself in the genitals early Thursday morning when a gun slipped from his waistband, police said.

While in the emergency room of Marion General Hospital, Mark Anthony Jones, 46, told police he was walking about 6:44 a.m. on a riverside trail when the gun began to slip from his waistband. He reached to adjust the firearm and it discharged.

"The bullet entered just above his penis and exited his scrotum," said a Marion Police Department spokesperson.

The gun was not in a holster.

Marion police said Jones did not have a license for the Hi-Point 9mm gun he was carrying.

Grant County prosecutors will review the case to consider possible criminal charges.

Well, I should hope criminal charges will be filed if the idiot didn't have a license for it. Too bad there's no such charge as criminal stupidity because he deserves to be charged with it for not having the gun in a holster, too. God, I hate stupid gun owners. My dad taught me to shoot & to respect guns when I was 8 years old. This pisses me off to no end.

I just don't get the appeal of glock style trigger mechanisms for anyone outside of law enforcement or the military.

There is no safety, and the firing pin is always active. Sure, there is a little trigger "safety guard" that keeps the gun from firing if you drop it, but any pressure on the trigger will cause it to fire, and there is no safety in the classic sense.

That's why so many people get accidentally shot by these things. Kids, a stray finger, an object, a dogs paw, anything that snags the trigger can fire the gun. It happens so often there is a term for it: Glock Knee.

If I EVER had a reason to own a gun, it would have an active safety mechanism. WTF not? Who is ever in a situation where they have to pull and fire in seconds? The world doesn't work that way for most people.

To own a tactical weapon like a glock, or an ar style long gun, you should need a special permit and special training. It should cost thousands unless you are LEO or military. Want a 38 revolver or hunting gun? Sure, no problem, standard background check and training and local and state ordinances apply.
