A Reminder to Republicans

Those of you who watched the Michael Cohen hearing should take note – especially those of you who participated. It was more than apparent that attacking Cohen’s credibility was paramount, while attacking what the man had to say was never even broached.

You’ve seen it happen countless times already. You’ve heard Trump praise those he sees as loyal to him as “the best people” – until they are forced to choose between prison and telling the truth, whereupon they are immediately dismissed as liars willing to say anything to save their own skins.

Michael Cohen is a classic case. Once described by your “pResident” as a man whose honesty and competence was above reproach, he was thrown under the bus the second he agreed to cooperate with the Mueller probe, along with the investigations launched by the Southern District of New York. And he isn’t exactly alone under that bus.

To some extent, I can understand your oh-so-obvious fears – and believe me, we know you’re afraid, the stench of flop-sweat being so strong, we can smell it from one coast to the other.

But what you have chosen to ignore, as is your wont, is the bleedin’ obvious. As the noose tightens around your “pResident’s” neck, you are all becoming increasingly expendable. When push comes to shove – as it inevitably will – there isn’t a single one of you who is safe from being targeted as under-the-bus material.

In case you haven’t noticed, while your esteemed “pResident” insists on your loyalty, he sees it as strictly a one-way street. Loyalty is something he demands where covering his own ass is concerned – but never where covering someone else’s naked behind becomes problematic.

If I were Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, Jeff Sessions – or any one of a myriad of professional Trump ass-kissers – I’d be scared out of my wits, because eventually, the only excuse your “pResident” can offer for his anti-American policies and behaviour will be that he was misled by those in his own party who allegedly influenced him to do all the wrong things.

It will be your fault, Trump-humpers, that children were separated from their parents at the border. It will be your fault that Putin and Kim Jong-Un were praised, while our allies were insulted. It will be your fault that lies were told, that ludicrous statistics were profferred as fact, and that incompetent toadies were appointed to positions of power.

As your “pResident” eyes the scaffold being constructed in anticipation of his political execution, be advised that there isn’t a single person among you who is safe from his ire, safe from his self-serving fabrications, safe from his desperation to say and do whatever is necessary to deflect blame from himself by accusing others of wrongdoing.

The great irony here is that it’s the most vocal, the most publicly outspoken, the most in-your-face Trump defenders who will be the first to be accused of having misled a naïve, new-to-the-job “pResident” into doing everything he has said, and everything he has done that is contrary to the principles of American democracy.

As we’ve seen over the past two years, Trump is an expert when it comes to blaming his own blatant corruption on others. And as the shadow of Mueller’s noose looms in the distance, any Republican who thinks their blind devotion to their “pResident” will be rewarded with some sense of reciprocal loyalty is truly beyond delusional.

Nominated for best post.

Nance is so right and what I can not understand is the ignorance of those who uphold Trump , knowing full well he will not do the same for them!

this, then get an interview with him.

Why? Because Nance has provided the perfect strategy for a good journalist to walk the orange buffoon into the inevitable, which is...to throw everyone under the bus.

Imagine a journalist asking the orange buffoon:

"We all know that you are a great thinker, and a great negotiator, why have you allowed Ryan, McConnell, Graham to advise you in a manner that has prevented you from bringing the great ideas that only you can provide? How has Pompeo derailed your negotiations with North Korea?"

Then let him go rampant on blaming the other crooks and throwing them under the bus...I think it would be easy to take him there...just praise him a little and put the blame on the others, then he will get going. I think it would work...

It would be acceptable for Moscow Mitch to take his turn under the bus before going to prison.

only to protect and cover up the lies of the president. Every time they call cohen a liar they are calling Trump a liar. Trump paid him to lie.

I suspect that there are not too many Republicans reading it on this site, but nonetheless a great piece.
