They're Meeting in Hanoi!

Think about it. They're not meeting on neutral ground, or even meeting as equals. Trump and Kim are meeting in Hanoi. Who decided on Hanoi?

Trump is so desperate to do something that might be considered Presidential that he has accepted this meeting on Kim's terms, not his. Kim Jong Un has to meet somewhere where the local government will protect him and where he can travel by train and automobile, since his bankrupt country has no reliable air transport. Kim set the location for this so-called "summit." Trump agreed to the meeting place, because he so desperately needs to do something presidential.

So, the President of the United States has flown to Hanoi to meet with a tiny little despot. He has bowed to the demands of someone who heads a bankrupt, penniless nation. Hanoi!

The very idea is absurd. The meeting is absurd. President Donald J. Trump is absurd.

18. The choice of Hanoi is interesting.

If the choice was Kim’s, the location is symbolic of a major US defeat in Vietnam after losing thousands of US lives and gaining nothing. The choice sends a message of defeat in a site of humiliation for the US.

My first thought if Trump chose the location is that the “Hanoi Hilton” is where John McCain was imprisoned and tortured. Trump is just sick enough to choose the location as a symbolic FU to a dead hero who refused to kowtow to him on a few very important votes that denied Trump something he badly wanted.

But Hanoi is no longer an enemy city. It is beautiful and vibrant, in spite of
what the US tried to do. My daughter and her husband visited there recently
and loved it.
