Live versus Online interaction with Dems

Having attended a Dem event recently, I noticed how cordial everyone was -- we all felt like we were part of the same general cause (having Dems win). It's likely that most of the attendees had various degrees of agreement on the finer issues -- the kind of disagreements that, when expressed online, are somehow amplified in a post because they aren't put into perspective by live discussion and debate. I was really surprised by the contrast. It makes me believe more than ever (not that I didn't beforehand) that there are some very clever trolls out and about online, stirring up division.

Some interations are strong, but without verbal and visual clues it comes down to reader perception. TheBlackAdder Feb 2019 #3

Of course the anonymity of the Internet creates a safe place to act out too.

In person most people don’t have that safety, and most people pretty much act on heir best behavior.

But I do agree that liberals are decent people.

.

Without the clues and inflections in a personal exchange, the reader applies what they believe is the response.

So, while some may view a reply as someone shouting at them, others might view it as a coffee room chat or neutral.

Folks get out of on-line posts what they want or subconsciously desire.
