Officials from 18 counties in Pa. get gifts from election equipment company.

According to a report from the Pa. Auditor General, 18 of Pa.'s 67 counties reported accepting gifts, meals, or trips from firms that sell election equipment in recent years. Election System & Software hosted a dinner for officials in Harrisburg during the 2017 Pa. County Election Officials conference. In 2018 Dominion Voting hosted a similar dinner.
Counties reported officials going on wine and distillery tours, accepting thousands of dollars in travel and lodging, attending cocktail parties and visiting an amusement park, all paid for by vendors.

Pa. counties are preparing to replace voting machines ahead of the 2020 election.

I have been voting on one of the machines for 20 years that has no paper trail, every year I have asked for a receipt and have been denied. I feel pretty good now knowing that Pa. is getting the best machines money can buy. (sarcasm)

we vote into a black hole. Results are spit out and there is no way to verify if the votes were accurate.

They don't randomly pull out voting machines and independently check them for accuracy. The manufacturers claim proprietary rights. Proprietary software rights for 1+1=2. yeah right.

And we always had paper ballots. They were counted on a scanner, but if there was ever a question, the county board of elections could always count the ballots. To me, it's the only way to go. One of the issues I hope we can take on WHEN the Dems are back in power (FU Mitch) is to require paper ballots for all federal elections.

Now we live in Oregon and it's 100% vote by mail. It's nice to vote at the kitchen table with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, although I miss working in a polling place.

And for those people living in states that embraced these "electronic marvels", it sucks.

"Trust us!" they said.

Secret software does not belong in between a voter and a vote. (No software belongs there).

Actually, every time you press an electronic voting machine's button or screen, somebody's garage door falls down.

Snip>

In April, Acting Secretary of State Robert Torres told Pennsylvania counties that they must have selected, by December 31, 2019, voting systems that provide a voter-verifiable paper record," said Department of State spokeswoman Wanda Murren. "They must be implemented by the April 2020 primary, but preferably sooner."

"We made this move to ensure that Pennsylvania voters are using the most secure, auditable and resilient voting machines available," Murren added. "The current voting systems in use in Pennsylvania are approaching the end of their useful life. They employ operating systems that are no longer supported by the manufacturers, or soon will no longer be supported."
