Keep in mind that the "progressives" who pull off these confront Democrats stunts, can't seem to find Cornyn or Grassley's offices.
They don't want to win or even compete, they just like to shit on things because it's easy and they're gutless.

(58,785 posts)almost a classic example of a left-wing teapartier type who claims to be for what Democrats are doing but devotes himself to sabotaging it.
But let's give the pro-Republican MSM, Russia's Putin, and the subversive groups funded by the Koch types their due too. It's yuuuge, as the legacy of their efforts would say.

(34,170 posts)For the record, I don't approve of the heavily edited Feinstein video, but political stunts on Democrats and left of center officials is a strategy for improvement.
For example, we saw BLM demonstrate on all three major Democratic nominee candidates in 2016 because that is where gains could be made.
mcar
(42,334 posts)and gain all kinds of "Dems in disarray" media attention in the process? What does that gain us?
I see no strategy for improvement in this. I see a strategy to weaken Democrats.
aikoaiko
(34,170 posts)But yes when groups are frustrated with a lack of response they do feel like that have to risk eating our own a bit.
And it works to an extent. But yeah, it could backfire.
Feinstein is fine. She not in an election cycle and she'll manage this crisis competently.
I do oppose the sentiment that criticizing our own is merely an attempt to be divisive or that protestors are gutless.
mcar
(42,334 posts)Issuing a deceptively edited video is not criticism, it's ratfcking.
If the group wanted to criticize DiFi based on the entire video, fine. They didn't want to do that. They wanted to be deceptive to attack a Democrat.
sprinkleeninow
(20,249 posts)aikoaiko
(34,170 posts)Its not about the edited Feinstein tape only.
I would say "these confront Democrats stunts" includes things like BLM in the primaries or Dreamers confronting Pelosi as well as the Feinstein confrontation and edited tape.
The same criticisms of the demonstrators occurred -- why don't they confront Republicans?
I think the answer is as I said -- they see more hope by trying to change Democrats as opposed to Republicans.
mcar
(42,334 posts)I don't see BLM and the Dreamers as being in the same category as Justice "Democrats". BLM and Dreamers have real issues, this was nothing but a stunt.
Of course, addressing climate change is huge. But cornering a Democratic Senator who has a good record on the issue, then deceptively editing the video to make her look bad, is not addressing the issue. It's a stupid purity test and sabotage.
xmas74
(29,674 posts)But altered videos like this make her look ineffective. That could be a detriment to her when she later needs to reach out and make deals in an attempt to pass anything. People don't want to negotiate with someone portrayed as weak.

(58,662 posts)the details that come later very often refute the story, often completely. It works on just about everything, from personal hit pieces like the DiFi thing on up to the hyperbolic coverage of mass shootings. Everybody wants to look smart by getting out in front of the story, and there is seldom any backlash when bogus stories are proven wrong, unless the RW media has its way of course. They seem to be able to end careers when they want to, but are somehow immune to it themselves.

The video of Sen. Feinstein was selectively edited to mislead people, similar to the Jim Acosta/White House intern video and the Covington video. You may still not like the outcome of the longer video, but at least watch it in its entirety and dont share misinformation.

I've been heckled by some offensive posters over the years (95% of them are gone now, anyway), but I've never put anyone on ignore. I figure you never know when someone who is usually not worth listening to might get some inspiration and say something I find interesting some time (exception--the one poster who only comes on here to defend Monsanto. I didn't even put them on ignore, but I ignore them just the same). There are definitely some one-track minds around these days, and several obvious one-trick ponies with an agenda (paid or not, it's all the same), but I hold out hope and don't use the ignore function. (35,454 posts)Not Aimed at Passing Right Now": Green New Deal Agitators Admit They're Not Interested in Immediate Climate Action
That is what has been happening with self-proclaimed champions of the Green New Deal and its principal activist backers, the Sunrise Movement. On Friday, February 22, a group of activists organized a number of children to show up at the San Francisco office of California Senator Diane Feinstein to deliver to her their demands that she vote Yes on the Green New Deal (GND). The Sunrise Movement then released a highly-edited 2-minute clip of the groups interaction with Sen. Feinstein - with whom, I might mention, they did not bother making an appointment despite having planned it on their own calendar - to make it appear that Fenstein was a grouchy old lady yelling at kids to get off her lawn.
But then, somebody on Twitter - specifically, Mediaites Tommy Christopher - decided to do the job too many in our mainstream media can no longer be troubled to do: post the full video of the entire time Feinstein spent with Sunrise/GND activists, in six two-minute-and-twenty-second increments (must be Twitters video time limit). In Part 5, after the crowd had started to leave, we find this nugget. Watch the beginning:
Here, we hear a GND/Sunrise activists - one of the adults in the group that organized the children - shockingly admit the truth: the version of Green New Deal they want Feinstein and other members of Congress to sign on to is not actually a thing that is meant to pass. I think the thing is that this particular resolution isnt something thats aimed at passing right now, obviously, she says. She then goes on to say that the point of voting on their version of the GND is to show the world what we really need.

I watched the long version and the edited version, and got the same impression of Dianne Feinsteins willingness to sign on to the Green New Deal and her dismissive attitude toward the children. Maybe they didnt vote for her, but their parents did.

Why is the Green New Deal a purity test? Why can't Democrats have their own ideas about combatting climate change, as does Feinstein?
I look for healthy debate, not falling in line with something that is, at this point, only a resolution - or else. What's wrong with healthy debate about the best way to combat climate change?
