I thought, Wow, Trump is great, I love him, Callori said.
But last week Callori heard from her tax preparer that she owes the federal government more than $5,000 ― almost five times as much as she had to pay in previous years.
I almost fell out of my chair. I could not believe it, she said. I voted for Trump. I thought he was going to be good for this country, but when I got that phone call, thats it, Im done.
Calloris tax bill went up for two reasons. One is that the law directly disadvantaged her by limiting deductions for state and local taxes, which increased the amount of Calloris income subject to tax and added an extra grand to her bill.

To me all government is socialist, democratic socialist, communist socialist and fascist socialist. You might even call a monarchy socialist if someone in society benefits besides the royalty. Saudi Arabia spreads its wealth down to the people, its just the right people like republican fascists spread to the top 1%.

(2,074 posts)Thanks to her vote, my family's taxes went up by nearly $2,000 last year (we got an increase of about $1,000 in higher wages between us over the course of the year, and our tax refund went down by over $3,000) - total taxable income went up significantly because of the changes in deductions, so total taxes paid went up by nearly $2,000. We're middle class but we're trying to pay off debt and this is not helping.

(16,646 posts)Dear Beth:
First of all, let me say, I'm sorry for you and your tax situation.
However, I'm a bit surprised that you are just figuring this out now. When his tax plan was passed, probably the single most covered aspect was that state and local taxes would no longer be deductible and the most significantly impacted tax payers would be those in high tax areas LIKE NEW YORK! But apparently you weren't paying attention, or worse, you were watching Fox News.
So, you might also have missed a few other details in the last 2 years that might concern you. Environmental protection laws on clean air and clean water have been eroded. That means that the air and water will be more contaminated. Ya know where the air and water will be most affected? It will be in densely populated and industrial areas, ya know, LIKE NEW YORK!
Oh, and we pulled out of the Paris Accords, so weather is going to get worse going forward. It will most affect coastal areas, LIKE LONG ISLAND!
Just a little tip going forward. You don't know about these things because you apparently only watch Fox News. But if you could just reach back a little bit to high school when you were required to do something called "critical thinking", if you missed these things, what else do you suppose that you didn't hear about that might concern you?
Oh, and "Thoughts and prayers" and all that.

(18,837 posts)...the MAGAts are never going to blink until it hits them personally.
Right after Trump was elected. I shared an exchange with my brother in law.
I had immediate concerns about Paul Ryan and Social Security / Medicare / Medicaid.
His response was "If it doesn't affect me, I don't care."
I think he was speaking for a lot of red hats on that day.
For the record, in addition to his Medicare and Social Security, he has a fat pension from the San Francisco Airport and "Rolls Royce" healthcare. He has hearing aids...one in each ear, $3000 each, and he gets them replaced every three years at no cost. He had a tumor on his neck removed...$25,000...and he also didn't pay a penny for that.

Sadly for the rest of us, it is hard not to say, I toldja so. The blinders will come off as the truth pinches them where they will feel it. The shock of having to pony up an extra thousand or two or five will bring it all into sharp focus. We wont have to say a freakin word. Just smile sweetly with a twinkle in our eyes.

So, she was willing to sell out her country, present and future, for $2160 per year?
FUCK HER AND EVERYBODY LIKE HER.
So, now at the end of the year she has to pay $5000 instead of her usual $1000, a $4000 hit. So...
$4000 less the $2160 she has already saved means she has to pay $1840 per year more over all.
Well, now.... isn't $1840 per year a small price to pay for her trumpian paradise?
