Why did/does Trump go after McCabe so hard?

He had him fired one day before he was to retire with full pension.

He has never had one kind word for McCabe, that I can recall?

Called his wife a loser. Said McCabe was a liar. He wanted to seriously assassinate McCabe's character.

Why?

Did Trump see him as just another "Comey"?

Or did he just want to get rid of everyone that he perceived as a threat to him?

What did McCabe do to piss him off so much??

When he was busted for lying to the FBI. I think he was also one of the DoJ officials on record as discussing the need to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Trump.

So petty revenge plus ass covering plus trying to discredit potential witnesses.

Cliff Simms wrote in his book , Team of Vipers, that Kellyanne lent him her Mac laptop so he could compose a statement for her . Conway had synced her iPhone to her laptop and an iMessage window was open on the screen at the time Simms used it. There were messages from KA to the NYT, Politico, Axios etc. leaking and bashing people in Trump’s admin , including Trump himself. Why she’s still there is a mystery.

4. I think the first two sentences of McCabe's statement in response to his firing say it all:

I have been an FBI Special Agent for over 21 years. I spent half of that time investigating Russian Organized Crime as a street agent and Supervisor in New York City.

That puts McCabe on the streets of NYC around 1997...of course, I know nothing, but five bucks says he knew exactly what donnie’s deal was and there’s little question that DT knew exactly who McCabe was, and had him targeted from the get-go.

Dirty Russian money has been flowing into Trump NYC real estate purchases for a lot of years. Every FBI agent working Russian crime in NYC has to have picked up considerable knowledge of where the Russian oligarchs' money has gone there.

McCabe probably knew lots about Cohen, too. Cohen was part owner of what for decades was the Russian mob's NY "Bada-Bing." When Trump started his heavy-hating on McCabe particularly, Cohen was still in good standing with Trump... was still his go-to guy for the dirty jobs like bag man and making death threats.

A guy with McCabe's background having risen to a ranking position in the FBI in 2016 and 2017... yeah, Trump and Cohen would have especially wanted him gone.
