I had a "discussion" with a member of Trump's television audience yesterday. The Russia probe came up and he delighted in telling me that Trump is obviously not guilty of anything because after all this time Mueller still hasn't indicted him. Our community was recently wracked by a horrible murder of a philanthropist and everyone in the area is aware of it. I asked him, okay, let's apply that to what you just said about Trump. Has the prosecutor in the local case gone to the press to discuss the minutiae of the case? Has he revealed any details of the crime, of the capture, of the proceedings? Of course he hasn't, because that's not how it works.

It didn't register in his brain. Too much Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity between his ears to allow for cogent thought. Or maybe he can't understand that, unlike Republicans, who litigate non-starters against Democrats just to poison the well, this is a bona fide criminal justice investigation being carried out by consummate professionals unconcerned about party labels and only seeking justice and the truth. The Trump television audience lives in a world of fantasy and reality at once, much like the role they played when Trump was the lead actor in his bullshit show "The Apprentice".

"hasn't indicted him yet therefore not guilty of anything" is illogical on the face of it. Plain and simple.

Under any other circumstances, the same people would realize the astonishing disconnect in their reasoning. Maybe I should don a tin foil hat, but I think many Trumpies are the victims of a mass thought conditioning campaign fomented by Limbaugh, Hannity, et al., aided and abetted by FOX and echoed through the halls of Congress by the co-conspirators there. How else can they believe that 1=1 most of the time but that 1=2 when they are put on the defensive politically?

almost from the day Mueller was brought in to investigate: no evidence! he's found no evidence of collusion!

(Actually Mueller has unearthed tons of evidence of collusion-conspiracy, but has not yet revealed the direct connection between it and Trump. I pray Mueller won't let Trump get away with resigning, but I could live with it if he gets Pence to do the same first.)
