Christine ODonnell is once again making headlines. This time, rather than claiming not to be a witch, she is falling afoul of copyright infringement. Next week she is holding the Troublemaker Fest counter-convention in Tampa, taking place at the Channelside movie theater less than a mile from the Republican National Convention. This is not the only such event during the convention period, as Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson is already slated to speak at the Paul Festival this weekend.
Where she is getting into trouble, as reported by The Blaze (owned and operated by Glenn Becks Mercury Radio Arts) is that at this Troublemaker Fest (named after ODonnells new book), she will be holding an event called the Tea Party vs. Occupy Wall Street debate and is saying shes partnered with Current TVs The Young Turks. Checking on the TYT website, however, reveals nothing indicating their participation. The Blaze also contacted Current, which stated that there was no affiliation, but that the event may be involved with the online portion of TYT, but not with the Current TV portion. Of course, the Troublemaker website directly states that it is with Current TVs The Young Turks.
Further complicating matters is that producer Gordon G.G. Gebert, best known for his appearances on Gunsmoke in the 1960?s, has already been developing an Occupy vs Tea Party Reality TV show. Sinclair News posted a letter from Mr Gebert informing ODonnell of the conflict, and informing Ms. ODonnell that despite an earlier claim of Chuck Woolery being the host, he was not attached nor affiliated with the event.
Hollywood producer spats are ugly things, as anyone who has worked in the industry could tell you. It appears Ms. ODonnell has fallen victim to some of the many missteps which happens often for media events. A simple name change, and removal of the inaccurate co-sponsors and hosts would have resolved all of this quickly without a hiccup. But now, with less than a week to go, her hoped-for event could result in severe litigation problems for her and those affiliated with her.
