It's been one year since Parkland
Has it changed you? Has it made you more involved in the debate?
In March my teen daughter walked out of her high school for 17 minutes. While participating in the walkout she handed out voter registration forms. The next morning she assisted with a small rally before attending March For Our Lives. In May she graduated from high school and signed up to volunteer on a few campaigns, including Gun Sense candidates. In June she turned 18 and started canvassing for Gun Sense candidates. In August she voted for the first time ever. (She registered at the Women's March in January of 2018.) She also started college and manned a voter registration table on campus. In October she marched in the Homecoming parade with a student group then circled back and marched with Moms Demand Action. In November she made calls to remind people to vote. In January she became a cofounder of her campus Students Demand Action. She has been recognized on her campus as a student of distinction for her actions.
She did this in an area where guns are second nature and started before she could vote. She isn't the only one. So many have put themselves out there in the past year.
What have you done? Let's each respond with something we've done in the past year to further the debate.
