Sports store to close after Kaepernick protest backfires

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/02/colorado-sports-store-nike-close-kaepernick

Nike's 2018 "Just Do It" campaign, which featured Colin Kaepernick, drew competing reactions from both sides of the political spectrum when it debuted last fall.

For Colorado Springs' Prime Time Sports owner Stephen Martin, it meant dropping all Nike gear. Now, his store is closing.

Martin told koaa.com that he will close the sports apparel store after 20 years because he can no longer afford his lease. He blamed his protest of Nike for playing a major part in the store's closure.

"Being a sports store without Nike is kind of like being a milk store without milk or a gas station without gas. How do you do it? They have a monopoly on jerseys," Martin told koaa.com

Nowhere in the story does he seem to even consider that his reasoning for dropping Nike might have been the root cause.

Introspection and self-reflection are not skills the MAGAts possess.

That's like a non-apology, apology.

He's admitting there are supporters out there. He's not admitting that the very cause could be worthwhile. It's still an "us vs. them" quote. They support Marshall and Kaepernick so they punish us for having a different view by not shopping here.

There is absolutely not a bit of awareness in that quote. It's about being out-numbered. Not about right or wrong.

They should be neutral, IMO. Maybe he was threatened by some important customers that they would boycott his store, if he cont'd to carry Nike. Who knows.

It's tough enough for the huge stores to express any opinion on politics. The small ones are at high risk.
