allowing prescription Drug advertising is the most annoying. And the most useless.
No I am not going to "ask my Dr." about what sounds like a deadly drug. (Hint, when they mention; May lead to death, it is too serious a drug to try because the was a commercial on the evening News.

(7,655 posts)I also hate the drug advertisements - total BS and I'm quite sure that leads to higher drug prices. Welcome to AMerican Capitalism which is a religion in today's world. Dumb, Stupid, and Repulsive.

(58,698 posts)It's stupid. Imagine how much the drug cartels (oops, companies ) are paying for all of this drivel. All those high drug prices are paying for Exec salaries and frivolous advertising.

Fast-forward to the 1980s: while Ronald Reagan was telling Americans to "Just Say No," the feds cozied up to the pharmaceutical industry, and relaxed their legal restrictions. Direct-to-consumer marketing (DTCM), what you probably know as "drug commercials," was first given the seal of approval in the US in 1985.

(16,113 posts)Drug commercials as you know them really only began in 1997, when constraints were further loosened, and new meds began to feature in television commercials. For its part, the FDA notes that no federal law has ever outlawed drug ads, justifying its progressively lax regulation.
